Hi guys,

I've recently refurbed my house and have installed some Cambridge Audio Minx 22's along with a Cambridge Audio 301 Subwoofer in my TV room. I didn't want my speakers to be too big and I found these to have the perfect sound / form for my needs. I'll be using it for films (Blu-ray/PS4), but mainly it will be Sky Q.

Now I'm looking into purchasing an AV receiver to power these. (I've already tested these with an old amp I had - So I know they work). I'm looking at one of the following amps though I'm open to any further suggestions. The budget is ~£500 and ideally I don't want to be going over that and wouldn't mind any cheaper alternatives.

  1. 1 https://www.richersounds.com/tv-home-cinema/av-rec...
  1. 2 https://www.richersounds.com/denon-avrx2400-blk.ht...
  1. 3 https://www.richersounds.com/tv-home-cinema/av-rec...
I'm also looking for a unit to place all my equipment in. Ideally it needs to be atleast 150cm wide (As it's going under my floating wall which is 3m wide), no more then 70cm high (minimum 50cm) and about 40cm deep. Any suggestion for a suitable cabinet would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Not tried those exact models, but I replaced a Sony STRDA-5200ES with a Denon x6200.

The Sony was much more of a pain to setup - but we're talking about something that's pretty old now so that might not be true of the unit you've linked to. Might be worth checking though.
Both sounded very good - I only changed because the Sony was too old to decode some stuff.
The Denon sometimes fails to decode when I change TV channel - I just get white noise and have to change channel again. The Sony never had that problem, and it's a little annoying.

Have you considered second hand? You'd get something higher spec and not necessarily too old for your budget.

Thanks for the response Davek.

I'm leaning towards the Denon - Can get it for ~£375 from Richersounds after a price match. I'm hoping the niggle you are facing has been resolved in there current models biggrin

Unless you think I can get something better albeit slightly older second hand for the same kind of money or less. I'd be very open to suggestions if you know of any.

Thanks again!

Denon get good reviews....but we went lower-cost with the Pioneer VSX531 from RS - only £179, good value!
Enough inputs for us, was happy with my Pioneer audio amp & like the auto MACC audio setup.
Sounds fine to my ears....but maybe I have low expectations, I wouldn't define myself as a big audiophile!
We have a fairly old 5.1 Mordaunt-Short speaker setup, works well in our 6m x 4m lounge.
Only negative to me is that the centre and rear speaker connections are the smaller 'clip' type rather than more positive screw, but they seem to work fine.

I’ve got a virtually brand new Yamaha RX-V679 that I don’t need anymore of that would be of interest?

Thanks for the help / offers so far guys!

Ive narrowed it down to the following 2 now.

1. Denon AVR-X2400H
2. Onkyo TXNR676

Any opinions as to which is better?

Thanks again

Misses out on HDR pass through but a league above the options you've listed.

I've got the lower powered X1400 in my games room in a 7.1 speaker arrangement can't fault it in ATMOS.

I've just installed the avr-x2400h in my new extension/cinema room. Personally I think its incredible, sound quality is superb (using q acoustics 5.1 speaker package) and the 2 atmos channels for separate zoned audio in the garden. Very easy to setup, loads of connectivity options and easy to use. I'd ask for a demo in richer sounds, they are really helpful.

Awesome! I think that seals it for me. Richer sounds keep telling me the Onkyo is better though it may just be because its more expensive! lol

For my ears/room I'm sure the 2400 is just fine.

Thanks again guys! I'll update the thread with my final decision as soon as I've made it smile

When I bought my Denon and compared to a comparable Onkyo, the reviews seemed to suggest the Onkyo was better if you used it a lot for music rather than just surround duties. Maybe that's affecting the recommendation from Richer Sounds.
