Anyone familiar with this idea? Yamaha call it Univolume, others things like truVolume.

While the current sound setup in the living room works perfectly well, I bought it from Derestrictor over a decade ago, so it might be due for retirement.

I absolutely loathe the volume differences between TV shows and advert breaks. What is an OK volume for a quiet dialogue between characters becomes Barry Scott bellowing about cleaning coins. Grrr.

Do these systems work, or do they just apply a blanket output = 45Db, which would ruin the idea of quiet and noisy bits in a film?

I HATE this on radio as well. I understand why they do it, for commercial reasons, but the difference is too extreme.

It means having to frantically turn the volume down on the kitchen radio when talk radio goes to the break, so that it doesn't wake my daughter up. If I leave it at that volume, then I can't hear the speech during the actual programming.

Worst offender of all is classic FM. They have smooth classics in the evening, intended for relaxation purposes. Then every few minutes they blast out f*cking PPI adverts at 10db more.

So bloody annoying.
