Soundbase options
Discussion
I got a cheap second hand Bose cinemate digital of Spock I think but there’s loads on eBay / Facebook etc , it has 2 tiny speakers and the sub and I think it sounds great! Much better than a sound bar and it all hidden from sight , just plug in the optical cable and away you go , every one I’ve demo it to is impressed, for 2:1 it really adds cinematic sound to everything ! I paid £130 , absolute bargain imho
The top way to do it is route through a hifi amp, and use wharfedales or whatever. But if you want a bit smaller, active speakers is a good route. Soundbars are always hamstrung by small speaker cones. The Mackie CR3 have big enough woofers that you don't need a sub. And they look good.
Have rethought this a little. The problem with the TV is that it has a wide stand that means you can't put anything in front of it. So I've ordered a new stand and a Yamaha soundbar + sub - I will report back! Like the Mackie speakers but even they are a bit big for the space we have.
The saga continues. The Yamaha soundbar is going back. Watching movies at decent volume, it's fabulous. But at lower volumes, the sub cuts in and out depending on the level of bass in the audio. So, for instance, watching The Apprentice - when Alan is speaking, bass. When Karen is speaking, nothing.
Off to Richer Sounds on Monday to listen to a few.

I bought a Cambridge TV5 Mk2 but it's going back as it doesn't work properly. But I also want to rethink the scale of the thing - it's huge.
Any thoughts on Sub + 2 tiny speakers options to give some more punch to the TV?
The equivalent Canton is smaller, looks better, and has much better sound.Any thoughts on Sub + 2 tiny speakers options to give some more punch to the TV?
