Sound keeps cutting out across multiple sources
Discussion
As the title describes I am getting my sound cutting out randomly while watching TV, it could be from my PS3 acting as my blu ray player or it could be from my Sky Q box and I think it happens with the netflix app on my TV as well from what i recall(i think i have just almost accpted it as the norm now)
Now my setup is I have a Samsung series 6 UHD tv circa late 2015, no HDMI hub as seen in newer or higher models everything connects into the HDMI ports on the back of the TV
Sound is from a Yamaha YSP 1400 soundbar, which connects to my TV via an optical cable and all sounds come through this. When the interruptions in sound occur it does 'loose' the audio signal on the sound bar. By this i mean the lights which show the sound source and type will drop brielfy and come back again.
I haven't done much in the way of testing so using TV speakers to confirm if the issue lies with either the cable or the sound bar itself, is there a limit to the data bandwith on an optical cable as it seems more noticeable on the higher bandwith audio such as Doly HD/DTS HD 7.1 on a blu ray.
Has anyone heard of these sort of issues before? I haven't looked massively as I am moving into my first house early next year, and I have a denon amp and sub already and just need speakers so want to change my audio setup anyway but curious if anyone has heard of this before

Toslink supports DD/DTS and up to 24/96 stereo in some applications - if sound cuts with a feed from SKY then it's not a headroom issue.
Not really clear how you have it set up - all sources to the TV then a single toslink to the sound-bar from TV for sound?
If so, use a source which has cut out in the past, connect video to TV, toslink to sound-bar and give it a try.
If that cures it, the issue is audio output from TV.
If the issue remains, it's the digital audio receiver in the sound-bar.
A couple of quid on a new toslink lead will rule that out too - they're more robust that HDMI but they can fail.

Not sure then, i've noticed it with decent audio so HD audio which can be explained by the connector type
Like i say I am going to go proper home cinema setup soon so won't be an issue then, thanks for the information as i didn't release there was a restriction on the audio side of things

Thanks, i think it was the TV output which was at fault as i think it was set to PCM/Bitstream and Sky was set to Dolby Digital Plus which i have now set to just DD
I've set the output on the TV to DTS due to a blu ray but can change, i've had no issues since this so think it's a the audio source and TV output that created my issues
Thanks for your help, as i say going to a Denon amp soon as the hub for all connections
Currently it is All Sources > TV > TOSlink > Soundbar
