When I moved into our new build house, the builder put in cables in both our living room and spare room for surround sound, oddly I got the spare room set up with no problems at all as it just had cables poking out the wall where needed, but in the living room has this wall plate where the sub connects, what kind of connector do I need to connect my standard speaker cable to it?

As you can tell, I've left it last minute and the Mrs is getting a new TV for her christmas (LG 55OLEDB7V).

It's a screw on coax connection. Possible to use for a subwoofer but unusual. More likely something to do with TV distribution.

Definitely Subwoofer, I had a wander around the showhome and they have there sub connected to the same type of connector, it's the opposite side of the room to the TV.

Not sure what that would be for, pull it off and see what is connected to it.

I think they might have put the wrong plate on it, should probably be a phono connection.

Looks very much like a TV Arial Coaxial attached at the back.

Sounds like a virgin/ sky socket then.

Nothing to do with a sub :-)

See what's behind it, if you're sure its the sub maybe the spark didn't have the right plate

The only thing that will fit it is a f type plug which only fits to co-ax cable

Opposite side of the room from all of those, think it might be an after Christmas thing to sort

Like said above, you will need to find where the other end goes, you could use the coax if it is a direct connection to behind the tv.

I would change to face plates though, no real reason to use screw fittings.

I take it, it’s a powered sub?

Just because it is an FType doesn’t mean it only has a single use.

I use F types for subs all the time, then they certainly can’t fall off, but make sure I supply a cable for convert back to the phono you need for a sub.

FYI Coax is a perfect cable to use for line level sub signals as it is so well screened that is minimises interference from mains and others.

If you struggle let me know I’ll make up a cable for you and send it over.

Many thanks, I'm unfortunately working sheet Christmas so will be the new year before I can really investigate. I'm pretty sure it's just a 2 core cable that appears back where all the cables come from.
