This is a simple one. I am currently with Virgin, but outside of my 12 month contract. I will be moving in January.

Am I better moving the contract that I currently have, or closing down the current contract and starting up a new one? Current contract is in my name, but the new one could be in wifey's name if they need to be different.

The contract I have is the same contract that I would be moving to, however a new contract would mean:
- A new box (Virgin TV V6, instead of the current TiVo)
- £10 less for 12 months
- A free speaker that Virgin claims to be worth £199.

Thoughts? No need to retain the land line number (I'm not sure anybody has it...!), and it would be handy to overlap the contracts for a few weeks.

I think it is pretty clear, but we are talking about Virgin Media (cable tv, broadband and telephone)...

First off, are you sure Virgin is available at your new address? It may not be!

Yes, it is. It comes up on the address checker and the previous owner had all of the services.

Have you discussed moving with them? Can they do you a Tivo box as part of your move or are they resisting?

Easy solution in the end. I told them that I wanted a new customer deal and they gave me one!

Not sure if everybody gets that option, because the website does explicitly say new customers only.

In retrospect, I think they encourage existing customers (even those outside their contract term) to carry over, because the deals that they will be on will be less favourable. That said, they clearly don't want to lose customers, so will give up the better deals without too much effort.

Thanks for the suggestions MissChief!
