Hi guys

I don't know a huge amount about AV unfortunately so am looking for a steer.

We currently have a plasma TV which has been trucking away for over 6 years (a LG 50PV350T). It's still functioning fine but we can get fibre broadband now so streaming 4K is a possibility, and the idea of something new is appealing!

I've spotted a LCD (LG 65UJ634V) for £684 which caught my eye for being 4K, LCD and fairly cheap for the size/brand

Is the LCD TV a good one or a dud, and would I miss the plasma?

The TV is in the main room, wall mounted (can get a bit of sun glare) and fed from a sky+ box or Amazon fire stick (Netflix and prime) via a speaker system (which also needs changed at some point soon to a sound bar as the sub box is pretty big and wired so sit on show)

I'm in no rush to change, just looking to capitalise on a good deal at some point in the next year - year and a half.

I've always blamed the plasma for putting out energy bills up... is that nonsense?

Thanks

I've had a 65" LG TV for just over a year - however, although it is superb that is because it's OLED (and hence cost a fair bit more than that).

If I was buying non OLED then I don't think I'd buy LG. Some (most?) of the other brands are better for normal LCD.

Moved to OLED a few years ago and the plasma was put in the spare room - it’s like a 50” radiator and heats the room up nicely.

So, yes, they do consume a fair amount of energy!!

I generally like the LG tv's. I think their strongest point is the OS as LG makes its own. Its responsive and I've not had any issues with it. My parents recently bought a new Sony tv and although I think the picture is superior, its android OS is a pain, being slow and unstable.

The sound on these things are never the best though. Minimum of a soundbar is a must.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm going to hold off for now until I get a chance to look into them all properly.

I've got a Sony TV as well and I agree that the picture is great but the OS is clunky.

Regarding sound - I've got a speaker system just now, but think I'll move to a sound bar for convenience (the sub box is large, on display and has sharp corners that attract my children!)
