How to fix a hifi.

My trusty old hifi is beginning to let me down. When you switch it on there is clearly interference coming through the speakers or only one speaker as one often goes off.

I have narrowed it down to the rca connector on the back which goes to a separate amp. You can see it's the set on the left of the 3.



It is obviously a dry joint as if I have a wiggle it goes but it's getting worse.

Do you think some contact cleaner would work on the rca port?

If the port has gone, what are the chances of getting a replacement.

I really want to keep the hifi as it quite unique.

If its just a dodgy joint on the plug then I expect any electronics repairer should be able to fix it easily enough if you aren't keen to solder it yourself.

Can't see contact cleaner doing anything, can you open it and do you have a soldering iron?

I have had the back off now, but all those connections are mounted to the 'chassis' and access to wires is not possible.
I think it will need stripping down to gain access.

I wouldn't know where to look regards to finding a repairer.

Bit of an eccentric guy. Shop looks like a bomb went off but he can fix things that others can't be bothered to look at. I've taken numerous old stereos and bits of kit to him and he's always sorted it. Reasonable prices too
