Hi all

I've got a 5.1 system up and running and after 5 or 6 hours of tweaking the AV Receiver/Amp's output settings for Crossover settings for the various speakers and other bits like individual speaker levels I would like confirmation from another source that all is what would be expected from such a set-up. I'd also like to know that I've set-up the powered Sub Woofer correctly - although I'm told I should just leave that set to '0' for the crossover and volume and make all changes via the Amp.

Is there a professional Blu-Ray Disc or something that I can buy that will hand-hold me through the set-up process and is both comprehensive and user friendly?

I'm not a techie on the audio side of things.

My only other alternative would be to hire a professional to come round and check it all but I suspect that'll be overkill in terms of cost.

Thank you.

Good selection of movies here to test your system.

Most of all trust your ears.

My Denon came with software and a microphone for set up but I still tweaked it a bit.

Thanks, I've tried a few movies (ie the latest Mad Max) and I seem to be happy with one movie and then unhappy with the next so end up tweaking again which is driving me nuts...not to mention the missus who's getting pissed of with my constant pausing the films, tweaking before restarting again.

That's why I thought a professional set-up disc might help get me a happy across-the-spectrum solution.

Thought most decent AV amplifiers these days had a automatic setup where you plug a microphone in, put it where the listener would sit and hit go. A while later it will have set the levels for various speakers etc. I'm guessing yours doesn't have this feature?

I don't know if they have this on the Blu-Rays but I always found the THX optimiser useful on the Star Wars DVDs for checking sound was coming out of the right speakers in the right phase etc. The picture calibration is also handy for basic contrast and brightness. A simple sound level meter app on a smartphone can be used to see if the volume out of each speaker is comparable.

It does but it's for the volume levels only and it's not very accurate.
