I have an LG 65" TV on the wall.

I used to have Sky as my input and there's an HDMI cable that runs through ceiling from the Sky Box in the corner of the lounge to the TV 6m away.

We used to have a Bose Sounddock with a cable to the Sky box that just added a bit of oomph to the TV, but unfortunately, I stream all of my services now.

So, question....is there anyway to get an audio out signal from the tv to a speaker of some kind without forking out for a soundbar that would sit under the TV? (wife won't allow)

Thanks!

Edited to add a pic of the back, I think i'm right in saying the HMDI ARC won't work unless there's HDMI in on that same (ARC) loop?

It's got an optical out you could use.

I think the issue I have is that the TV is on a blank wall, with no cables anywhere.

The only cable that runs to that TV is an HDMI one.

So whilst I can get source material to the TV, I'm not allowed a bar under the TV. I would like to get sound back along that HDMI cable to a speaker(s) elsewhere that can remain unobtrusive - to my wife.

Have you seen how thin an optical cable is , it’s less than 2mm and could easily be tied behind the Single HDMI you have , Bose do a small speaker the has optical in that sounds pretty decent and could be hidden away , optical it the way I would go

Just plug the HDMI into the arc socket.

It really is that simple.

I'm in a similar position. LG TV too but the dinky 32" which is in a holiday cottage so I cant fill the little living room with speakers.

Current options are to get the wireless soundbar/sub from LG for €130 down at the supermarket or maybe take out an old pair of JBL control 1s and buy a little amp or just buy these and take them on the plane.

This is what I wanted to hear..so i'm literally using the HDMI to submit a sound signal from TV to an audio device, as opposed to what it was previously being used for as an input.

If for instance I'm watching Netflix, the TV will output the sound via that HDMI ARC?

Please tell me it is!

ARC, Audio Return Channel *should* pass through the sound from your TV back to your set-top box. Another option would be to use an AV amp, with speakers and plug the HDMI from the TV (via the ARC in/output) into the amp. You may need to go down this route if the set-top box doesn't pass thru the sound signal to the Bose.

I don't think it should at all.

ARC is for use with an AV amp or similar sound system.

If you do go for a AV amp or similar solution then your external sources will connect to one of the HDMI inputs on the amp with a single HDMI connected to the TV to send video to the screen. The same HDMI cable will return TV audio to the amp if you use the TVs built in services.

ARC to amp.

All devices plugged into amp.

This will send sound to TV and will send the sound back from TV to the amp too for Netflix etc.

Just read the forums as some amps are funny with ARC.

Get some floorstanders either side of the tv and an av receiver. Run your virgin/sky box plus fire tv or whatever other streaming gadgets you have into that. Then have one hdmi from the receiver to the tv. Enjoy sound 1000x better than tv sound. If wife complains ignore her.

That’s what I’ve done.

If you run sound to a speaker that is not near the TV, won't it sound odd?

The only sensible way I can think of doing it would be to channel all the cables into your plaster or to use a conduit buried in the wall to cary the cables.

The you can mount a soundbar neatly with no cables and have a wireless sub in the corner.

I did similar with this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01N2VKCO0/ref...

Connect it to your amp/speaker setup and bluetooth connect the TV to it.
