All,

I've been using a Logitech Harmony Hub for a few months now to control my TV, sat box, AV receiver, PS3/PS4, Apple TV and HDMI switch box and have to say it's fantastic. Much better than playing with 6 different remote controls depending on what I want to watch.

My only problem is my powered sub woofer has a bit of a glitch in that it doesn't always power itself off when there is no LFE signal from the AV receiver, so I'm in the habit of powering it on/off at the mains each time I want to use it, which is annoying.

Does anyone know of any mains remote power switches that are compatible with the harmony hub that I could use to fix this little issue? My sub is a Paradigm PS-1000 whish is yonks old but the sound is fantastic for my set-up and I don't want to change it.

Logitech have a compatibility list on their website which I have checked, but the list of compatible mains remote switches all seem to be US, not UK.

Thanks in advance.

These :

They are IR - you simply teach them whatever IR code you want to use for power on / off.

That's a good idea, thanks for starting the thread.

I have got two setups controlled by Harmony remotes and one of the subs doesn't even have auto on/off.

I ended up just leaving it on all the time (I think it uses about 9w), but I'd rather have it turned off altogether, especially as it get older.

Bah, I'm in the same boat now! Notice my sub's heatsink is always warm and this has me thinking of the electricity usage.

Issue I have is I have one irIR blaster pointing at the TV to turn TV on & off, but sub is at the other side of the room with no IR line of sight.

I need to look into it further.

The recommended sockets have an IR 'eye' on a cable which might help? The Harmony hub seems quite a powerful IR transmitter, so it could be ok if you could get it just about in sight.

I'm not sure the saving itself is that great as I reckon my sub is costing about £10 a year to leave on standby and I assume that the IR switch must take a tiny amount to power itself.

It should still pay back the tiny cost of the sockets within a year, but the main benefit will be lack of wear on the sub's amp and lower risk if anything does go wrong with it.
