It was replaced as the top of the range by the Elite a few years ago. The Elite is the better unit, but at less than half the price the Ultimate is the better deal.

As above, the elite is the current top of the line. I picked one up for £119 on Black Friday.

Thing is I hardly ever use it (use voice). I'd have got away with just a hub and an Echo.

Has anyone used it for controlling Amazon Fire TV? The blurb suggests this is done via the app, rather than the remote, which is not what I'm looking for.

Yes. IIRC you have to pair the remote to the Fire TV.

Most of the set up is done via the app. You then sync the remote and use that.
