Old TV with Firestick or Netflix

I plugged a Amazon Firestick into my father in laws old Samsung TV via the HDMI socket. The Firestick software loads but the TV remote wont respond to the 'Continue' to get access.


Any ideas how to get it to work?

Fresh batteries? Ours plays up when the batteries are low but not low enough for it to complain about them being low if that makes sense?
