I'm being blinded by the choice of Sony 65" TVs on offer and would like someone just to pick out the best bang for buck on this manufacturer between this price range.

I see the SONY BRAVIA KD65XF8796BU gets a good write up?

Don't get an edge lit one - the picture on mine is awful. Loads of banding and bright glowing edges.

Is there a reason you particularly want Sony? You can get the LG OLED 65" B8 within budget this week, and it's where my money would go

I've always been a Sony Bravia fan and would rather stick with the brand, I know LG in particular get some good write ups though.

Totally agree, when you get to that size back light issues are too prevalent.

If you can get an OLED the you would be silly not to.

I love Sony sets, but there is not a single LCD from them that comes close to the OLEDs.

Also, the LG OS is 1000x better than the Sony one which is Android, a joy to use in comparison.

I would also consider the Philips or Panasonic OLEDS too.

What do you reckon to this offer?

I would rather have this....

They offer 18 months interest free as well, may as well use their money. wink

The C8 is nearly everyone's TV of the year and a nice jump up from the earlier panels.

Always good to hear your thoughts. Is this the one you'd go for in that price range? How about the Samsung QF9 thing?

I would go for this at any price, as much as I love Sony image processing, and their designs, the LG is the better set.
How much are the Philips OLEDs on there?
They are superb too, razor sharp and seems to get the detail looking better without looking at all artificial.
But think they will be even more money.

The Samsung wouldn't get a look in from me.

Have you had one with the Android TV OS?

I used to work for Samsung (and still speak to some of the TV people occasionally), so please don't think I'm biased, but I have a 65" LG OLED, and would go for the C8 if I was replacing it. Fantastic image quality

I like Samsung screens, I have one in the bedroom, my B&O gave a stunning image and that used a Samsung panel.

But as said by pretty much everyone, OLED is a different league. A few couldn't get on with the earlier sets because they like to set up their screens much brighter, but the the last couple of models have been more than bright enough.

I had a PS64F8500 - a fine screen, but I prefer the LG OLED I have now.

There were lots of discussions back and forth to Suwon/Seoul when LG first launched their OLEDs and the ultimate decision not to build OLED may well hurt the TV biz. However TV is a small part of the overall revenue and certainly a much much smaller part of profit, so in the end it won't make/break the business in anyway - it's quite likely a pride issue as well (not wanting to follow LG in anything)

I'm looking for a new 65 and was impressed with the Sony AF8 but have heard reports of the odd one crashing and needing to be rebooted the wall, can anyone verify?

Be interested to know what people's objections are to the Samsung (I know it's QLED) but been very happy with our current box. Budget £2-3k, where you you put your money?

I've had an LG 65 OLED in the lounge for a couple of years now. About 6 months ago, I decided I needed a bigger bedroom tv, and was intending to go for Samsung QLED since I figured it would be good enough. But when I viewed one in store, I was very disappointed - it was simply not in the same league as OLED. I ended up buying a 55" LG OLED.

I've got a 65" Sony (XE9305.) Very happy with it. But if you're going to be viewing it in ideal conditions (fairly dark room) then I'd be looking at the LG C8 with your budget. Detail in the blacks should be more appreciable.

There's still a place for LED though in situations where having that extra brightness is going to be beneficial, particularly where HDR content is likely to make a regular appearance.
