Hi,

I have Sky Q in the house - main box is in the lounge and an outbuilding that I have bought another mini box for. The issue is, is that the mini box can't seem to connect to the main box in the lounge, as it is out of range. It is about 30ft away.

I have tried a powerline booster and that works and the mini box has perfect signal through ethernet, but still can't connect back to the main q box. The main box can't be moved any closer, as it is right next to the doors that open to the garden anyway.

I can't see a wifi booster working, as that won't boost the main sky box signal. Has anyone else faced similar issues, with a mini box not being able to connect to the master box?

Ring Sky and ask for a wifi booster (or buy one)

Place it inbetween the Q Silver box and you non-connecting Mini and follow the boost instructions.

The trouble is, if I get a booster and stick it in the middle of the sky q box and the mini box that would be the garden so that won't work.

Just wondering if there is anyway to boost the sky q signal, rather than the wifi signal as that is what needs to be boosted

If you've got Ethernet running to the outhouse how about keeping the Q box in the house and running the HDMI signal down the ethernet. You'll need an IR extender to control it of course?

How about this solution if 4K & surround isnt an issue?

How is the Sky Q main unit connected to the internet - via WIFI?

I gave up with the Sky Q WIFI - it was useless in my house even with a booster...

I have linked all my Sky Q main unit and mini boxes via ethernet and they work perfectly. When you say your mini is connected to ethernet is that straight to your router/switch? (and i'm assuming the main box is connected via WIFI?) If so connect the mini ethernet cable into the same switch/router as the main box (also via ethernet) and it should work.

Thank you, I'm going to look into that, didn't even know they existed. The only possible issue is that the way I have ethernet down there is through a powerline adaptor which sends the signal through the AC circuit..

In that case I'd be wary. Superimposing a signal onto a superimposed signal might not be reliable if indeed it works at all.

I think runnign a proper cat 5 down to your shed might be the best option all round. Will certainly be the cheapest.

Think I would need to protect that cable through, bit like an armoured cable, as it would be exposed to the elements. Probably the most reliable option though...

If you've got ethernet via power line to the outbuilding, then just connect the mini to it. It should be able to communicate to the main box.

I did try that and doesn't work. On the sky mini box settings page, it has a cross next to the 'connect to main box' or words to that affect section. The section underneath that 'internet connectivity' has a tick next to it. So I think these mini boxes need internet connection + to be in range of the main Q box, else technically you could just plug it in anywhere and take it with you to hotels/mates places etc., so I suppose that is why Sky have configured it this way frown

They simply need to be on the same network. Definitely don't need both WiFi and wired connections (mine have been connected by ethernet only since about 2 minutes after the installer left...)

I'll try again shortly, but last time I did that it tried to sync to the main box and couldn't so then wanted to re-pair with it, but it was out of range
