Samung Blu-Ray/DVD to Samsung TV not working?

Ok, so what am I missing. We have a new Samsung TV and new Blu-Ray/DVD player

So how come the bloody thing doesn't work? TV says it detects a Blu Ray player, but then there's no picture or sound, just a blank screen.

Tested the Blu Ray player and cable on our old Panasonic plasma tv and it works fine. Any thoughts on what I'm missing?

EDIT: TV has Sky input in HDMI 1 and amazon tv box in HDMI 2. Have tried HDMI 3 and 4 (and also 2).

Try a different HDMI lead.
If its an older one it may not be up to speed.
You could also change the output of the player which may bring up the picture on an older lead.
