I bought a LG OLED B6 last year and I'm really not making the most of it, as currently use a PS4 for netflix/Amazon/YouTube steaming through an old Denon 1610 receiver. Since neither are 4k or HDR capable, I'm not getting the best picture. I do use the PS4 for games but not a lot. It would seem sensible to upgrade the amp to something like the Denon 2500 at £400, which seems to have the spec I want, but then I need a device capable of streaming 4k but also ideally upscaling and bringing to life dvd/Blu-ray disks as much as possible from both a picture and audio perspective.

I recognise that the PS4 pro doesn't actually have a UHD disc drive, which is fine as I don't see myself buying many more discs, and Blu-ray would suffice. So removing that from the equation, would a dedicated UHD drive like the Sony 700/800 models provide both better picture and audio than a PS4 pro when upscaling dvd/Blu-ray and streaming online content?

Why not watch Netflix via the integrated TV app?

Good question, well the WiFi is a bit patchy and only have one hard wire Ethernet cable available, going into the PS4. I understand I could possibly split this to the TV as well, but also want the full 5.1 audio. I guess I could output an optical cable from the TV to the amp to do this though so perhaps worth investigating.

It sounds more like a wifi problem, you have all you need I think.

What's your wifi speed? You only need around 9mbps for a 4k stream.

I have great quality WiFi and struggle to stream high bitrate 1080p mkvs. Switched to hard wired and it is flawless.

Numbers are one thing, reality is another. WiFi has a lot of overhead.

If you already have Ethernet cable going into the PS4 then just plug it into a switch and have 2 cables going out, 1 to PS4 and the other to the TV (if your TV has ethernet port?)
Netgear Switch

Ethernet is so much better than Wifi especially for 4K.

Thanks all, yes while the WiFi should in theory be fine, I did experience some problems streaming, hence hard wiring put in and it runs a lot smoother. I will try an Ethernet switch and optical cable, on the basis it should allow 4k HDR steaming through TV but also allow decent sound through the AV receiver. Should save me a decent amount of money assuming it all works well!

Just one last question, would the PS4 pro or a UHD drive provide a notable difference in quality of playing dvd or regular Blu-ray discs over the regular PS4 I have now?

I'm not sure the up-scaling on my PS4 Pro is all that impressive. However proper UHD Blu-Ray discs played my XBox One X are very easily noticeable higher quality than streamed 4k or normal Blu-Ray, + sounds is uncompressed so far greater too.
