Best TV under 40" & £400 (ish)
Discussion
Happy New Year all,
I've been tasked with helping my mother in law find a new TV. On the way out is a 36" samsung (don't know model or spec, but it's 12++ years old so no complaints about the quality). She wants a similar size, but googling around "best" "what hifi" etc isn't helping much - most reviews are much larger models - which means the closest I've come up with are:
PANASONIC TX-40EX700B
SAMSUNG UE40NU7120
SONY KDL-40WE663
I think 40" would be ok (current model has a pretty thick frame/bezel, which I suspect a new 40" wouldn't, so the unit size in her room would be ok??) but does anyone have any recommendations? Budget would be around £400, but less would be good of course.
No need for smart-enabled, or apps - she's 86, so she won't be streaming, gaming or downloading, only connecting to her DVD & Virgin box!
Thanks in advance, CF

Thanks for the info all. MIL & I left Curry's on saturday with a JVC LT40C550. She'd budgeted £400, so was well pleased to spend only £219. The telly isn't a state of the art award winning tech fest, by any means, but is a smaller item of furniture in her front room, has a better picture & much clearer sound than her old Samsung box. It was also half the weight, thank goodness, given that it was me lugging it in from the car.
As an aside, something like this does illustrate how complicated appliances are getting for the elderly. Even one slightly different remote has given her (@86 yrs) all sorts of stress, mainly because she can't direct the remote by touch, whilst she watches the screen. She's looking down, pressing the command (always too hard - the amount of times I've gone over "because it's broken", to find a button has been jammed into the remote), then looking up. You can easily see where it gets horribly confusing if she presses the wrong key, or points at the floor or ceiling.
I'm looking forward to voice control in my dotage & hope by that time, Alexa etc can understand my effete hint-of-northern sweariness.
Ta again, CF
