Netflix titles with 5.1 sound?
Discussion
Yesterday I got round to wiring up my Denon AV receiver to 5.1 speakers, and connected via optical cable to the output from an LG 55UK6400PF that I bought in November.
I thought Netflix had titles with 5.1 audio (and their help sections say that), and apparently a 5.1 icon should appear next to the HD icon when looking at a film.
But I can see no titles in Netflix with the 5.1 icon having browsed through many films.
Am I missing something, or is it just stereo out? Thanks.

I wonder how many people have a full 7.1 speaker setup though. Lots of soundbars in use, some have a go at 5.1, some use wireless rears to support 5.1 better. But I suspect few have soundbar + 4 speakers.
Could be wrong, but while I have a 7 channel amp, I am using 2 channels for an extra zone (kitchen), not 7.1.

it displays the 5.1 icon just below the picture title, its the same on the fire tv stick, ps4 and tv native apps as far as i can remember.
Best film to test it out with i found was birdman, characters appear out of side doors and behind for lots of the first thirty mins so a great way to test your system!
i use sonos and can see in the app what signal the speakers are receiving, not sure if your system has an equivalent?

Might be worth checking the amp is set to "auto" detect the audio signal..or just check it set to Dolby Digital
Also, check what your tv is set to output on the...Stereo or PCM or "something else".
Your Amp should light up with DD when it detects the signal.
You can upgrade you Netflix account to get Atmos, and you'll see the icon next to the show instead of 5.1 (only if not using an Optical cable)
Worth trying it with a Firestick (or similar) plugged into the Amp instead and HDMI out to the tv.

LG have a guide to setup Netflix 5.1 here:https://www.lg.com/uk/support/solutions/tv/netflix...

I went through that, optical out works, DTV Audio Setting has been tried on Auto and Dolby Digital. But going into Netflix, the 5.1 icon remains lacking.
There are Amazon Prime titles that show as 5.1, but still only getting Stereo into the receiver.
I wired my Bluray player with another optical cable to the receiver. That happily auto detects and shows the input as Dolby 5.1.
Audio settings picture at the link below. Seems a shame if the TV can't push out 5.1. I'll raise a question with LG.

Bonus points if you can identify the film.

You can do 5.1 fairly easy, but 7.1 requires you to be in a suitable size room. Those with a TV in the corner aren't suitable for either. I have 5.1 as we're at one end of a large rectangle lounge with the TV on the wall to the side of the fireplace, 7.1 would require wiring a speaker into the middle of the ceiling, and would look weird.
If it was truly down to me I'd brick up the front window, slap a 75" tv on it and go full 7.1. Not down to me though.

In that shot you have audio out to internal speakers + optical. You shouldn't need internal at all. Do you have an option for just optical?I wired my Bluray player with another optical cable to the receiver. That happily auto detects and shows the input as Dolby 5.1.

Done, output set to PCM. It disables the TV speakers, but the 5.1 Prime film still shows as stereo on the reciever, and Netflix no different.https://photos.app.goo.gl/oYsL4STyrP5MKXhq6
when you connected your blu-ray via optical which worked ok, was that to the same optical input as you are using from TV?
If it were a different port, could it be a setting on the amp for the TV optical input that is forcing stereo rather than auto based on input signal?
If it is the same port as you were using for TV then something on TV is down scaling to stereo.
