Hi All

I recently bought an LG SJ8 to boost the quality of the sound on my TV. The sound quality is good, however t doesn't seem loud enough - I can turn it to full volume and it's loud but not that loud. However, if I play a video from YouTube, it will play much louder - it's as if the TV 'signal' isn't loud enough whereas the YouTube one is, although strangely that is watching YouTube through the App on the Sky box. The TV is a pretty new Sony OLED AF8 and the soundbar is connected via HMDI ARC. I'm watching TV via Sky Q.

Any suggestions as to what could be the issue?

Many thanks for any ideas or suggestions

I've found the same with a recent Samsun soundbar I've put in. Youtube sounds superb through it, so does normal TV from Sky, but find that some films on sky are really quiet. Game of Thrones on Sky Atlantic was very quiet..

I have an Orbitsound One P70 sound bar. It has an optional volume boost on the optical input (i.e. TV) obtained by holding the VOL+ button for 3 seconds. There may be something similar on your sound bar.

Check the audio settings of your tv for a setting called "High Dynamic Range" or similar and turn it off.

My in laws TV had this enabled and we used to have the volume up to 100% and still barely hear speaking.

It’s infuriating. There needs to be a better way of processing audio streams so that speech (in particular) is prioritised to be more dominant & central in the front soundstage. It’s 2019 ffs smile
