In laws don't have the internet and therefore don't have an email address.
They want to watch the iPlayer on their TV but they need to register.
I assume it can be done, I know i could give them my email and password but there must be a way of doing it without t'internet surely.

TBH I haven't a clue, never thought about it. They have Virgin Cable TV so assume it comes via that.

Make up an email address on gmail or something, use it during the registration. Not really that complicated.

Just use a made up email anyway, it doesn't need verification, that's what I always do.

Jsgbwjs@hfjegs.com will be fine.

The TV will show a code when you try to get into iPlayer and you have to enter that into your account on another device (phone/laptop etc). You don't enter the account email and password into the TV itself.

When trying to open iPlayer, there's a screen comes up with an empty "box" into which she has to enter a code or password. There's no code on the TV which I have to enter into my account.
It's funny but I did this straight away when I registered but have forgotten what I did. Just registered on t'internet I assume.
When they 80 year old, haven't got internet and are 250 mile away (and deaf) it becomes a little more of a problem.
I'll set up a new email and try that.
Cheers

You can't use iPlayer without internet.

It's a streaming service, and as far as I know doesn't work 'over the air'.

In case someone does have the internet but not an email address (or they just don't want to register with the BBC) and they want to use the iPlayer app on their TV you can get signed in anonymously by telephone.

You just call a number which gives you a code you use to sign in. Various warnings about how it won't remember your favourite shows but you may prefer that.

I've done this for a couple of older relatives who don't need any more passwords to remember.

Got there.
I created an email address for them, then registered them for iPlayer with a password.
They entered the password on their TV, they then were given an 8 letter code on their TV which I put into the iPlayer verification page and "bingo".
Not really sure why they need iPlayer when they have Virgin with Catch Up along with more recording facilities than GCHQ.
(Virgin recording on box + Humax box in another room connected to a satellite dish).
But apparently there's something on iPlayer that they can't get on Catch Up. The joys of being 80+ .It's MIL's birthday today.
So thanks everyone for your input.

Given the OPs recent post - I suspect that iPlayer does work without internet on Virgin, because as I understand it, all Virgin interactive services are delivered by an internet connection, whether you have paid for internet or not.

OP, if you have any more troubles email me, and I'll email my brother - he's the head of the iplayer technical team.
