CEC / ARC problems

I have had a Yamaha amp for a few years and had little problem with HDMI and CEC / ARC. I have now tried both an ARCAM and NAD amp. Both have problems at times with ether switching to the wrong port or not picking up audio without a few buttons presses. An engineer from ARCAM said its way better to use a fiber connection and NAD said it should be sorted in the latest version of HDMI.
How come the Japanese seem not to have these problems yet the two high-end companies cannot get it working well?

Pretty much every brand is suffering the same issues.
Just Google HDMI ARC *Brand* and you’ll see

The Arcam is fitted with Panasonic HDMI boards, so as to make it more reliable. Costs a lot to do, but has worked for all users I’m aware of.

The general rule, is switch of HDMI control in all devices. Then use optical instead of ARC, if you need it.


ARC has been nothing but trouble!

The second multiple brands are involved, with AV amps and multiple inputs, the problems get worse.
Some combinations work, some don’t. The ones that do work, might stop at any moment, due to updates being installed.

Sky and Virgin boxes don’t comply to standards 100% and suffer some manufacturing variance.
If you have one of those connected, it can cause problems, even when switched off!

Lol, and people wonder why us professionals don’t use ARC or CEC when building systems and packages.

Far to unreliable for warrantied install work.

Hell, I’ve only just moved one client to HDMI from Component HD, because he is so picky it wasn’t with the hassle.
