Annoying projector signal dropout since changing TV
Discussion
Hi all,
Hoping someone can shed some light on an annoying problem I’ve got with my projector.
I have an Epson EH-TW5300 projector, connected to the second HDMI output of a Denon AVR-X2400H. I have recently changed my TV from an LG, to a Sony 8-series 65”.
Before changing the TV, this setup worked perfectly for over a year. However, I am now getting dropouts at random intervals from the projector, where it is reporting no signal. This lasts for about 5 seconds, and then the picture comes back. If I disconnect the TV from HDMI Output 1 of the receiver, the dropouts stop completely.
Any ideas? I have tried a powered HDMI signal booster at either end of the projector cable but this hasn’t made any difference. The only difference other than the TV is that I am using ARC from the TV to the receiver for audio from Netflix etc, whereas before I was using an Apple TV with all ARC settings on the old TV turned off.
Many thanks in advance – getting really annoyed with it now!

I suspect you are having problems due to the TV and the Projector being able to take different signals - the projector can only take 1080, but your TV can take 4k which is 2160.
When your amp is sending EDID data it's getting confused as the two devices are reporting different capabilities (hence it works OK with the TV unplugged).
You can get little devices to fix your EDID data to prevent this or someone else more capable than me can possibly give you another way to fix it.

Are you using a 4k source? Have you tried it running at 1080p?
Is your projector 1080p?
Have you tried setting the tv to work at a lower resolution? If this cures the issue then yes it would point to a resolution / handshake issue.
ARC does cause all sorts of issues, which is why we tend to steer clear of using it.
Audio from tv using the Optical Out may be a cure.

I had this with my Marantz receiver. I solved it in the end, but the solution is really annoying.
As mentioned above, the problem is likely caused by your projector only being capable of 1080p signals and the TV being 2160p.
Your receiver will be sending the signal to both HDMI outputs simultaneously and the different capabilities of the displays will cause problems.
I programmed the discrete commands to output over only one HDMI output at a time into my Logitech Harmony remote and it all works fine now.
The annoyances:
1. It will only work if you run a Logitech Harmony
2. Marantz (and I assume Denon) phased out the discrete commands a few receiver generations ago, so I had to set up a 'fake' receiver as a device on my Harmony account to make it work.
Hopefully, someone will have a better way around this. I'm about to change to a faux-4K projector, so will remove the commands then.

Thanks for the responses.
I have disabled ARC and any HDMI-CEC related stuff on the TV. The fault persisted, so I used a different HDMI port on the TV (without ARC) and the same thing still happens!
I appreciate what you are saying about the projector being 1080p and the TV 4K, but there were no issues for over a year with an LG 4K connected.
Considering taking the TV back and getting another LG

I had the same problem - same amp. 1080p PJ, 1080p TV.
No signal and snow for a few seconds, then it would resume. Normally towards the end of a film. Only on the PJ.
I now have an LG 4k tv and the problem seems to have gone. I honestly can't remember what I did but I think I had to disable all sorts of things on the TV and amp.
I'm fairly sure it was hdmi handhshake "renewals" or similar.
