In the last day or 2, I have moved my sky box which meant extending the cable. I used f connectors to join the 2 connectors to the 2 new connectors but have since had frequent "no signal" errors.

Where the join is I taped together, meaning the connectors were touching under the tape. Is that the likely cause of signal errors?

Been outside again.

If I unplug one of the connectors (at the join) the signal comes back (on one of the indicators on the screen) and I get picture etc.

If I plug it back in, it all goes off again???? Odd.

You have an electrical short somewhere on the new cable.

Thanks VEX.

Would that be a broken wire in the cable or the cable casing touching something?

I guess what I am asking is, shall I just buy a whole new cable, or is it that the old cable is touching something along its very long path?

Cheers

The Sky man has been and replaced the whole cable, so its sorted.

Couldn't put up with the wife whining about not watching neighbours for another 24 hours till I could do it myself.

Good news.

For reference, the short will have been between the outer braid and the inner centre conductor. If you are not cautious then it is easy to get a single out braid wrapped around the inner centre conductor. Need good eyes to spot it sometimes too.
