OK, so I have a sonos system at home and love it. All nicely hooked up to wifi, my phone and Spotify. Simple, easy to use and love the simplicity.

I would also like to have this same flexibility in my garden, but without having to wire anything in. Simply grab a speaker and head outside.

Essentially I am after a Sonos speaker but battery powered. I realize they don't make these, so looking for other options.

I don't like Bluetooth as you need to leave your phone near the device, but those style speakers are exactly what I need. Just need to swap Bluetooth for WIFI.

Any ideas?

We’ve got an Ultimate Ears Ultimate boom, cheap, water proof, easy to use, good battery life and great sound from a single small box.

Yeah, a good Bose system really pumps the tunes too.

Is the Sonos play not a WiFi enabled wireless speaker?

Ignore me, too many terms of wireless going on now, I've just had a look.

Whilst they describe it as wireless, it needs a power cable... Surely by definition, that's not wireless!

Anyway, I have the UE Boom 2, it's a great speaker but battery life when used at higher volumes is appalling.

Wireless, as in it needs no physical connection to the music source. It still needs mains power and ‘Wireless’ does not mean no mains power required.

Bluetooth, but decent range - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MTB55WH/ref... I wonder round with my phone in my pocket and no problems!

Had a party this weekend though and just took two play 1's outside

Interesting sounds like there isn't an easy fix for this one.

Good news about Bluetooth these days. Does anyone have a specific recommendation for one that has this longer range? I remember Bluetooth needing to be within about 6 feet of the speaker only a few years ago. I guess that has improved?

If there is no true wifi wireless option, sounds like Bluetooth is the only way to go.

I've had a look at my 'collection' of speakers and I do actually have an okay wifi enabled portable speaker but they were discontinued years ago.
Again, battery life isn't all that great.

It's an Aether Cone, you might be able to pick one up still from somewhere, the price of them dropped like a stone as a lot of the features/services were dropped. I think I paid about £250 for mine :/

Ultimate Ears speakers are usually good.

https://www.whathifi.com/ultimate-ears/megaboom-3/...

You can get the Megaboom 3 for little over £100. I doubt you will get better for the money.

Denon heos 1 has an optional battery pack, streams via WiFi, has bluetooth and 3.5mm input. According to Denon the battery is good for 6 hours.

Someone at uni had one of these 'JBL Flip 4 Portable Bluetooth Speaker'

Or something similar. The sound quality isn't anything to write home about, but it was plenty loud enough.

We just bought an Ultimate Ears Boom 3 through Amazon. Connects to the laptop or your phone. Plenty battery life on the modern ones.

Megaboom 3 adds some more volume but in no way suggest that the smaller Boom3 is lacking in punch as for any normal usage it is not. The smaller ish size makes you more likely to lug it around. That was our decision maker between Boom 3 and Megaboom 3.

We didn't bother with the wireless doc but we did buy a 3rd party case for it so that the device now goes everywhere with us on trips.

Denon Heos 1 is essentially a Sonos Play 1 clone so will do most of the stuff your Sonos does. There's an optional go-pack which is a battery that screws on to the bottom.

I'm fairly certain that Sonos are working on a new speaker which has an inbuilt battery and a dock.

Can't find anything reliable on the net but saw a photo of the unit (similar looking to a One but bigger) which someone was doing pre-production trials on.
