Dirty bargain Black Friday TVs - the best of the worst?
Discussion
Need a couple of TVs for a holiday let. Doesn’t need to be anything fancy but 40-50” and smart enough to have the Netflix app built in.
Anyone able to help me dig through the bargain basement Black Friday crap? You’ve got a 50” Hitachi at Argos for £249 if you can find stock, 43” Toshiba for £229, 49” Polaroid for £229 in Asda (think it’s just 1080p not 4K but who cares?) and I’m sure there are many more
Obviously the answer is I need to buy some OLED thing for £2000 but back in the real world where cheapness is king, how do I pick from the best of the worst?

If its for a holiday let then i wouldnt be too worried over picture quality etc as long as its easy to use and reliable.
Yeah that’s why I’m looking at the bargain basement rather than my usual go-to of low end Samsung. Don’t want something that is actually awful mind

I'd skip the polaroid one which is bound to be dreadful but hitachi and toshiba are both known names so should be reasonable enough.
Isn’t it all just white label b
ks though? Argos or whoever want a bunch of cheap TVs do license the Hitachi brand and slap it on whatever they can get ?Not currently in stock but we picked up a 50” 4K JVC for £279 a couple of weeks back. Silly money for what you get!

Back in the day Hitachi and Toshiba were good, but both along with JVC and Panasonic are all made by Vestel in Turkey. As we all know, Turkey is known the world over, for their quality electronics.Basically they are all pretty much the same, cheap and cheerful(ish) but bound to fail at some point in the next few years due to a cheap capacitor writing off the whole TV.

Mental prices...
As a student I worked in conet, must have been around 1999. I remember the first plasma screen we could order (not in the showroom!) was a 42" wide-screen, I think Philips, at a cost of £12,000!!!
I think at least once a year I see a TV advertised for sale and say “fAs a student I worked in conet, must have been around 1999. I remember the first plasma screen we could order (not in the showroom!) was a 42" wide-screen, I think Philips, at a cost of £12,000!!!

Yeah that’s the Argos deal - bugger all stock anywhere though Scrump said:
It appears to be in stock on the eBay link with free clock and collect from your local Argos store, or am I missing something?
When you add it to basket it makes you pick a store that has stock. It erroneously shows stock in two stores near me (it fails when I try to check out, and the Argos website itself shows no stock in those stores)They’re just selling stores inventory not shipping to store.
