We have ditched Sky, so I bought a Humax Freesat box. It’s is terribly noisy (hard disk) so it’s going back. My Sony Bravia has onboard satellite, but having scoured the various forums it appears it doesn’t have a working EPG.

So I plan to relegate it to the kids Xbox, and procure a new one.

43 inch ish
Proper Freesat on board, so that means LG / Samsung / Panasonic
Can be delivered by Amazon or get from Currys before Christmas

Recommendations?!

No, but the sales start on Boxing Day, although it feels like they've been on since last Boxing Day.

Both Richer Sounds and Currys offer a 7 day price match (or beat) ie if you find it cheaper within 7 days of purchase, they'll refund the difference.

That should cover any pre-Christmas purchase whose price is reduced on Boxing Day.

Potentially you can still get it to work without an EPG as a short term solution. You just end up with all the channels in a random order, 15 different regional versions of BBC1 etc..

Just to round this off, I picked up the Samsung QE43Q60 from Currys. It is magnificent frankly. The picture is stunning (and my Sony was excellent, at the right angle) and the operating system is just leagues ahead of Android TV. Absolutely miles better. I have now ditched my Fire TV as all the apps work properly (unlike the Sony) and I no longer need my Harmony remote which is a bit of a blessing as it is actually quite crap considering the cost.

Only minor inconvenience is that I will need to make haste to Screwfix tomorrow to pick up some screws to mount it to my swivel stand, would have been nice if they were included with the spacers that are provided. Still, a trivial gripe.
