Connect smart TV sound to home cinema amp ?
Discussion
My Denon home cinema amp is in a cupboard under the stairs and there is a single HDMI cable running between it and the TV monitor that runs under floor. My current TV acts just as a monitor it has no tuner.
I am looking to buy a new Smart TV I would like to make use of all the smart TV stuff but want the sound to go through my Amp. Can I port the sound from the TV to the Amp via HDM. I see HDMI arc but that is only for input?
I’m a novice to all this so all advice would be appreciated.

ARC stands for 'Audio Return Channel' but there may be a couple of caveats: https://www.cnet.com/news/what-is-audio-return-cha...
It might work just fine or not fully; depending on your setup another option might be to utililse the TV's optical digital out (it should have one). For example, my amp is stereo-only and not an AV one but I still want sound from the Netflix/Amazon apps as well as the XBox One X routed to it.
As my sources use different HDMIs I wouldn't, for example, get audio out for the Xbox if another device is using the ARC port (my TV has only one HDMI with ARC). The optical digital out solves that; I switch the TV to the input I want and all audio routes from the optical out into my DAC (if you have an AV amp it'll most likely have onboard optical and coaxial digital inputs so you can use those). The HDMI (or app) selected dictates what goes out of the optical digital out.
However, if you're doing video input switching using the AV amp (and it sounds like you are - ie. all sources via HDMI into the amp and then a single HDMI from the amp to the TV which always stays on the same source) then ARC should work for you, assuming the TV manufacturer has implemented it properly.

It's worth asking what length the HDMI lead from the cupboard is.
I've got an 8m cable going under the floor to a second room. Bizarrely the cable works perfectly for 1080P video but the same cable only works reliably for ARC in stereo, surround sent via ARC just results in multiple drop outs or even no sound.
Replacing it with an Amazon basics cable sorted the problem.
