Hi All,

The current old box is just that. Old.

It’s been proving entertainment for at least 10 years, so it’s no bother, but having looked at the sheer options available now, I’m somewhat bewildered.

We don’t have Sky and watch most stuff via the Internet (we also live in France).

Box sets, DVD’s, Blu-Ray, etc all go through the home cinema system (old, too. Kev Q Series, Yamaha RX V1065 AV Receiver) and onto the screen, which is also a tad small @ 40”.

What Smart TV (I’m assuming a Smart TV is the way to go..)would you guys recommend at under £700? We’re looking at screens over 46” in size.

TIA for the help/advice. The last time I was in this part of PH was over ten years ago when I bought the Kef/Yamaha kit!

Cheers :-)

We bought the 50" Sharp 50BJ2K TV that was in Lidl last Autumn. This was completely on a whim with zero research. Its been very good* and it is back in at the moment at £299 (well, it was in at Hayling Island Lidl last Friday).

We use it for Freeview, Netflix and Youtube.

  • There is a very occasional freeze up which requires the 'IT Crowd fix', i.e. switch it off at the wall and back on again. Otherwise it is excellent in all respects.

We recently bought a Panasonic OLED TV……….. it’s a 55” and it’s over your budget.

However, the picture quality is superb and I’m still fascinated by the clarity. Even with old black and white films it seems to clean up and boost the image and they are spectacular, almost 3d looking.

Came home the other day and stuck the TV on and caught the end of a colour 1949 film called The Red Shoes. Not particularly interested in the actual film but I made a cuppa and then sat and watched the last 10 mins purely because the picture was so good, almost translucent in quality.

Well worth the money so far.

Great! Thanks for the thumbs up on the Panasonic. Which model is it?
