I’ve just rediscovered my Arcam hifi system. Can any recommend a good set of headphones as I don’t what blow my neighbours away with my loudspeakers which are 30 yo JBLs but very good quality. Looking to spend in the £150-200 region

Do you want or need noise cancelling?

Not fussed. I live on my own if that makes a difference?

If it's purely for listening at home on your own you will not beat a pair of Grados (SR325e or SR225e). They are easily the best headphones for this category hands down. But (and it's a big but) these are a one trick pony.

As soon as you use them outside this environment they are hopeless as they leak sound in and out as they're open back.

Thanks. Gone for the sr225e at £189.

You really need to go to a decent shop that has a range of headphones. Try those in your price range on for a decent amount amount of time, and above all choose comfort, then sound quality. You will rarely put uncomfortable headphones on, no matter how good they sound. And what suits one listener doesn’t suit another.

I bought a set of sennhieser something or others 20 odd years ago, they are the absolute dogs danglies. However one night when I first got them I listened at high volume for hours, I simply couldn't get enough of the sound they produced and I went to bed with my ears ringing. I'm sitting here on my sofa all these years later and I'm still waiting for the ringing to stop.. Be careful is my top tip!

I’ve got some nice hifi kit, 2 pairs of good speakers, 2 good amps, but honestly, I think my favourite bit of kit is my headphones. You can really blast the music to anti-social levels without disturbing anyone, there’s a lot to be said for that. Even if I lived in a detached house, my OH would probably struggle with the volumes I like to listen at - not that I personally think its particularly loud, but definitely is for her. Headphones aren’t as natural as speakers, but I like all for their different strengths, but if I want to really rock out, I choose my headphones every time.

Good choice. Ive got the SR80 and they are superb headphones for quiet environments.

I'm reading some reviews but any thoughts on the Grado SR80e Prestige Series?

I'm after something cheap but decent that can be worn for long periods but are open so don't drown out (entirely) what's going on in the environment.

I usually wear closed back but not for the same length of time that I am now and the sound insulation is frustrating plus my ears hurt hehe

Not worth starting a new thread but I ordered a pair of SR80e of Amazon and they've delivered a pair of SR325e and said to keep them as it's their error!

Seems a result as I'm buying without a trial but the sr325e's seem to get good reviews and for £83 presume you can't go wrong?

Bargain... almost worth taking a punt and ordering some just to see if the same error occurs! laugh

That's a bargain at twice the price IMO.

If it was a small independant company i'd certainly feel bad and want to either send back for the right ones, or offer to pay a bit more for the upgrade. however as it's Amazon it somehow doesn't feel as bad - drop in the ocean and all that.

As long as it was Amazon and not a small independent seller via Amazon.
