Sonos beam - stereo sound and sky
Discussion
Hi All
I’ve purchased a sonos beam. The beam is connected to the HDMI ARC output on the television.
The soundbar works fine with xbox / native apps on the television and has dolby 2.0
When using the sky q box the sound is very quiet. To hear the television I have to have the volume close to maximum.
When i set the sky q box to output with dolby digital the sound goes off.
Do I need a new television? Any ideas?
Thanks

Having gone through much time trying to sort this on my setup (also have a 2014 Samsung TV) I believe the TV won’t pass through Dolby. I also have Apple TV and it is about double the sound output than the SKY Q box.
Also I was very disappointed with the Beam, it really didn’t have the wow factor I was looking for (my fault probably). So have now upgraded to a playbase, sub and 2 x play 5’s for rears, sound much better now :-) . However I am having to use optical on everything which involves direct output from the sky box, a HDMI to optical from the Apple TV all connected to a splitter. Without this I was stuck with only Stereo output if taken directly from the TV optical.

Sky Q sound sucks! It’s that simple. Google it - loads of complaints.
With the lounge sound bar we needed the volume up HIGH then wen switching to Netflix on the smart TV it was deafening.
In the bedroom Netflix from the TV is fine but Sky Q needed the volume literally at Max, (a few notches off to save the distortion). My wife is a little hard of hearing so we have resorted to putting a sound bar in the bedroom and even that needs the volume at least 32/50 and occasionally 40/50 to hear it well, (it’s not a massive bedroom).
I am not sure if is Sonos that is the issue here. We have put a Sky Soundbox in the lounge and it is MUCH better. Maybe it’s a conspiracy.

Strangely though it works fine with the xbox which is the same? Also I was very disappointed with the Beam, it really didn’t have the wow factor I was looking for (my fault probably). I have an optical output going straight from my Samsung TV into a Sonos Soundbar (with additional Sub and two play 1's)
Sky HD box (not Q) connects to TV via HDMI and all seems to work perfectly as do Netflix etc. No differences in volume. In fact Sky remote works with the Soundbar to change volume for everything.
Sounds Settings on the Sky box have HDMI set as follows :
Digital Audio Output - HDMI - Dolby D.
Sound Settings on TV :
Audio Format : Dolby Digital.
Sorry don't have an Xbox or similar also connected but for me the above works perfectly well.

Same, I have a 2018 Samsung and just connect everything to the tv and the tv through optical to my soundbar. Everything is the same volume, but not sonos.Sky HD box (not Q) connects to TV via HDMI and all seems to work perfectly as do Netflix etc. No differences in volume.
