I've been thinking about replacing our old TV, it's led, Sony, and is now 9 or 10 years old.
Nothing wrong with it but I fancy something a little bigger, this one can go into another room.
Is it possible to buy a dumb TV? I don't need it to have built-in anything, it's not used for watching tv I have a sky box and a ps4 for prerecorded films or games.
I don't want the TV to listen to me, play adverts or interact with me in any way.
Is it possible to get a glorified monitor?

I have a monitor with a firestick connected. It has built in speakers, so the only issue is a lack of remote
I'm trying to get a decent size too. The hang up seems to be the sky box and ps4. I simply don't watch TV programmes. A few prerecorded things aside it's mostly Netflix or prime via the ps4.
I just want a simple TV but this seems to be difficult!
You can buy just a screen (more for professional use) we use them for hire stock, they are better made and should last a bit longer.
Might be more expensive than just buying a normal TV though.

Thanks, I will look into the Panasonic link.
I don't want the thing listening to me and serving adverts.
I don't see the point of features that just sit redundant.
A display TV is about right but I need to check what the ps5 might require in future. There is a rumour it might not work with some tvs, my current one included.

My TV does neither of those things despite being smart. If you're so concerned just dont connect it to the internet...I don't want the thing listening to me and serving adverts.

Surely you could just not connect it to the internet? You will pay more for a specialist TV I don't want the thing listening to me and serving adverts.

I assume you're connected to the internet using this website.. do you go to an internet cafe? Or do you have other internet connected items in your house? They will be "listening" to your very interesting conversations as well

How's it going to do that if you don't connect it to the internet?Getragdogleg said:

Sorry, but that's silly. They're standard features that many people do want, but nobody is forced to use them. I bet your existing TV has some menu options you've never used, but you still bought it. Have you used every single A/V connection on it? The headphone socket? If not, why did you buy one with features that have just sat there redundant?
If you don't plug in an ethernet cable or configure the Wi-fi then nothing will get sent back anywhere. A display/monitor will have limitations in terms of features such as input selection, HDR (I don't think any displays have Dolby Vision or HDR10 for instance) & audio/video delay correction (although some of these could be handled by an external amp). Your main issue is that it's going to be either 32" or 40", nothing in between.

Is it as simple as not connecting though, the sort of ass hole design that goes into stuff these days I expect it to moan at me or not work unless it's fully plugged in to the world.
As someone said, it's a revenue stream.
I don't have any other smart stuff apart from the phone I'm on. That's quite simple and has microphone permissions turned off apart from call and video and location data off.
I can't understand why people are so OK with being the product.

What are you so concerned about? Is your life really so interesting that Samsung will want to spy on you?As someone said, it's a revenue stream.
