Its about a 3/4 year old LG 43 inch 4k Smart TV

Thought it was the Sky box but seems to be on either HDMI, sound is ok and stuff like the smart menus works but play anything and the display is just gobbledygook.

Put it on Netflix, the menus work ok, play a programme and its just garbage, like a mosaic of the picture that then changes periodically.

Any ideas, do I just order a new one ?

might go super cheap and get a Hisense 43 inch for £250, this is the second one we have had die in like 8 years ! Toshiba conked out before this one.

Seeing as how it's effectively scrap and you've probably got time on your hands try fixing it....
I'd suspect the main board not the TCon board take a look on ebay.
I saw a 43" main board for £10 so worth a try to replace it. Not difficult, Look for the TV model number

Where did you get it from? It might still be under warranty. Mine needed a new screen when it did that.

it is under warranty, Currys one, I bought it S/H when it was a few months old, lady had bought it for her mum who thanked her by dying a week later, she had thrown the stand away but was brand new otherwise, and local so got it for £200 or so in £79 guarantee.

Came with a 5 year guarantee which isnt in my name, rang the company spoke to a bloke who then put me back on hold for 30 mins, tried again, same thing so will now make it my crusade to get them to sort it.

Ordered a Samsung UE43TU7100 (2020) for £400 as cant be doing with not having one and my man cave being invaded to watch her stuff biggrin

Will look into fixing it, like you say, might be easy to fix if the warranty company dont avail themselves, six months to get that sorted though, bloke on the phone sounded a right sketchy git, confirms my theory of never bothering, ordered a new one from John Lewis who will answer the phone and sort stuff.

I’ve just had a LG 32” tv pack in as well, it was only 6 or 7 years old. I suppose things like this are disposable these days!

I did, a Samsung, had a few and never had one break, dont need Which, its a telly and they are all way better than is needed really.

Looked at a Cheapy Hisense then realised its made in China and Samsungs are made in Korea so Samsung this time.

Had it apart, very little inside compared to the olden days, remember my dad with the back off the telly trying to coax it back into operation and it looked very complex.

This is two bigger boards, the power supply which is obviously ok and the mother board which is what all the info points to being at fault, plus a Tcon board which manages the screen, as the screen works apart from anythign with video in (Menus, titles etc) I am guessing thats ok.

Sourced a Motherboard off eBay for £65 delivered, so worth a try, fairly sure it should sort it, otherwise its tipping a TV worth £200 with a perfect screen that can otherwise grace my garage wall, its too big for the limited space but I am male and when does that ever stop us ?

I researched the oven trick, i.e. put the board in the oven for 10 mins at about 190c, this can reflow the solder, but I made the critical mistake of mentioning it to the wife first and she is quite precious about the oven and the mentioned of reflowing solder made her think it would smell like the garage when I have been soldering not briefly of hot motherboard, I decided to just hit it with a heat gun, first with the heat sink still on, then tried it, no different, then without the heat sink and a bit more heat, no success, amazing how hot it got and still worked.

So, got the new one on the way, its from a TV that has a broken screen, from a TV parts seller with 40k of decent feedback.

Will post the results, sure you cant wait.

Yep, it is now mounted and working in my garage, may as well be there than stored.
