Hi All,

I listen to Music at work to help me concentrate and found the best way is through earbuds. I love the sound through my over ear headphones but I can't wear them for more than a few hours or I will get earache so they have to be earbuds.

I don't need anything fancy and especially cannot use noise cancelling buds as I need to be able to hear my phone if it rings and my colleagues need to be able to get my attention. I cannot use wireless as they would be too easy too lose and they don't seem to have enough battery life to last a full working day.

I have been using the free sets that come with HTC phones and they are brilliant but all have now been binned after one side failing and I can't find any more genuine ones so now i am using a set of Sony buds that I found in TK Maxx but the right bud has now become crackly.

Can anyone please recommend me a decent set of wired, non-cancelling earbuds, preferably not Chinese Tat for approx £30?

Many thanks smile

Slightly more expensive at £35, I had these Sonys a while back and was very happy with them: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/audio-and-headphones...

Soundmagic E10s and some third party foam tips (InAirs are good, just replace them every month)

I have been using Sennheiser CX-300s for at least 10 years (3 or 4 different sets now, repeat buy), So whatever the current Sennheiser equivalent is would be my bet.

I had soundmagics then went for these: https://rockjawaudio.com/collections/earphones/pro... The Rockjaws are significantly better and an absolute steal for the price.

I have always been happy with the sound and fit of the few pioneer earbuds I have had.

I have these at the moment and I would be surprised to find any better for the money.

I also had some of the £10 ones and found them more than adequate for bike rides etc.

I'm a bit biased , I have liked the brand for a long time. Swapping my old factory fit WRX stereo for pioneer head unit etc made the most incredible difference that I liked the brand ever since.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

After considerable thought and checking each suggested model I have decided to go for the Rockjaw Alfa's.

The reviews are pretty good and the interchangeable drivers will allow me to tune the sound to my preference (and to suit my slightly weaker right ear).

They are British Engineered by a UK based company so that also helps my decision.

And finally, they are called Alfa genus'. As an Alfa nut I couldn't not buy them biggrin

They arrived late on Wednesday so I have been using them all of yesterday and this morning.

They seem very well made with a nice rounded cable that doesn't look like it will twist easily. These are my first metal bodied earbuds so i was surprised by the weight of them, I have to be careful not to leave them overhanging the edge of the desk like i normally do. The box confirms Made in China which I expected.

There is a good range of tips included including spares of the medium size. It took me a while to find the right setup, normally i need a medium in my left ear and a small in my right but with the weight of these I am using a small in both ears. They seem quite comfortable but I will need to get used to the weight.

The sound quality is really good. I haven't tried any of the other filters yet but I am pleased with the sound of the Bass filters that are already fitted in the package. I listen to a lot of Soundtracks, Synthwave, Muzak etc, a good variety and everything sounds pleasant and clear. The warmth of bass on old analogue recordings really comes through too.

So far I am happy with them. I know ear buds don't last forever but if they last a year I will be happy.

Thanks again for the recommendation, PH delivers again.

Still enjoying the rockjaws? I found they took a few weeks to settle down. I ended up buying their T5 Ultras too.

I am still very pleased with the sound but they are a bit too heavy and keep falling out of my ears, Doesn't help that I catch the split section of the cable on the edge of the desk and pulling them out.

I think my ears are the issue though, I always have trouble keeping earbuds in.

One thing i notice is how much louder they are. I typically listen to music on my work laptop at between 14 to 16. These i have it down to 10 most of the time. Sound quality wise these are by far the best I have had from earbuds smile
