Just spent a couple of hours stripping down and trying to repair the 5 year old 32" LG telly in the kitchen.

Dreaded "white spots"... had 3... now has about 15 blurry spots irked

Liked the LG picture but remote barely responded and took an age to change channels, crappy slow interface was getting annoying so time for a replacement.

Either LG or Samsung (based on cost <£300)

Any particular recommendations?

Edit: Got impatient and ordered a Sony from RS.

But, just to add, repairing the LG Spots was not particularly easy in the sense that I was extremely careful, gloves, pin head for the glue etc etc and it still didn't work. Worth a go if you are inclined but don't expect it to be a simple fix.

Damn, the ex-display Sony I ordered is now not available frown

Is there an obvious choice between an LG and Samsung at 32" or much of a muchness?

Well this poster is complaining about his Samsung having the same slow response issue as you're having:

I recently bought a LG 32LM6300PLA From RS.
The LG web OS is excellent, I wish my other LG tv had it.

It seems really responsive with only the TV guide being a bit slow to load at times.

Last couple of lgs I have fitted recently have a really funky effect when viewed off axis, certain colours you can see through to the backlight diffuser, looks horrible to me.

My LG TV worked fine before I went on holiday last year for 10 days, turned off at the wall etc. I came home to notice 6 white spots had appeared, after some You Tube watching i decided to try and fix it myself.

Once stripped down I found 6 lenses (if that's what they are called) had fallen off the back. I glued them back on carefully and I even checked all the remaining lenses to see if they where loose. In the end I glued 10 lenses.

It worked perfect for about 6 weeks until more white spots appeared and these where not the same lenses I had glued previously. I ended up buying another LG TV in the hope it wont face the same fate. I like LG I think the pictures are superb and the Smart menus are easier navigate then other models. My main larger TV is a Samsung but I prefer LG's menu and smart functions over the Samsung.
