Hi all,

I'm looking for a cheap "starter" record player (circa £100) that I can connect into existing speakers (both wired and Bluetooth).

I've had a look and I'm getting confused with all of this conversion technology. All I want is something that will play records - I don't want to pay for conversion tech that I'll never use, which hopefully means there will be a better "simple" record player for the money.

Any recommendations please?

Many thanks

Bear in mind you might need to consider the specs of whatever amp/receiver any turntable will be connected to, as you may need a pre-amp if using an analogue signal. Some receivers already have these built-in, others don't.

Surely, to connect to speakers via Bluetooth, you need to convert the signal from analogue to digital, which then negates the whole point of having a recod player?

Surely the question was, can you recommend a record player, as opposed to can you explain why I shouldn’t buy a record player?

Any of the Project turntables would be a good starting point - check out superfi & Peter Tyson etc for ex demo or ebay for second hand.

I have a a Project phono stage spare (& going cheap) if you need one.

A chap on another forum I use was wanting to do similar to you, he bought a £100 no name thing and it was hopeless wouldn't track the record etc - he returned it and bought this, says it's a vast improvement, built in phono stage and Bluetooth output, twice your budget though.

Do you have any details? Looking to try a phono stage to cut down noise in my AV cab.

The amp you use is going to need a phono input or a bluetooth output from the turntable. As said above the bluetooth output kind of takes away the reason for the record player in the first place. The Project decks as mentioned above are good but just looking at Richer Sounds at the end of the budget you would probably want to go for -

Bluetooth unit (TEAC TN180) - https://www.richersounds.com/hi-fi/turntables/teac...

Built in phono unit (Marantz TT5005) - https://www.richersounds.com/hi-fi/turntables/mara...

If you want to take a step up (Rega Planar 1) - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01KLQBCPY?tag=georiot...

Yeah but most units don’t need one today as they have the phono stage built into the turntable or the amp

TBH I don't think you're going to get one with Bluetooth build in for £100. £100 wouldn't even get a very good phono-equipped turntable.

I have a Project Debut Carbon through an Onkyo amp and AE speakers. Cheap set up, but bloody hell it sounds good.

Pro-Ject do a great range of decks and are quite forward thinking in terms of both design and tech.

As has been picked out the Primary E is an excellent starting point, but at its £179 price it would need a phono stage pre-amp which can be bought sperately or the Primary E Phono comes with it for £239 (cheaper of you know who to ask 😉)

However you then need an amp and speakers to get it going, or active speakers, so actually offer a MM input option but again £££££

I know it is way out of original budget but its worth a mention - the Pro-ject Jukebox E is a complete system in a deck. The deck has bluetooth in, photo line in and an amp all built into the deck - an amazing little lifestyle package for £429, just add speakers or £644 inc speakers (again less if you know who to ask 😉)

Thanks Darren, I'll see what those shops have in clearance, see if I can pick up a bargain.
