Hi guys,
Just finished putting my home office together and want something for radio, CD, Bluetooth etc. What are people’s thoughts on micro systems? I could easily get a smart speaker but just find them a little boring and ‘white goods’. I could dig out my 90s technics separates from loft storage but they’re a little big and messy in terms of wires. So Microsystems; teac? onkyo? Marantz? Denon? Budget small (<£200) as just an office And happy with second hand, also happy to plug in a Logitech Bluetooth adapter for wireless so inbuilt feature not a biggy

Sonos 1 gives great sound and plays everything. Microsystems just don’t give off a decent enough sound at that budget.

IIRC TEAC moved into the budget corner of the market some years back, unless they're moving back up again?

I expect your other options should be pretty good for the price, or Yamaha if in budget? I have a pair of Yamaha musiccast network active speakers (model NX-N500) which are brilliant, but might be out of price range if they are even still available.

I was looking around the turn of the year for an older Denon/Marantz/Onkyo et al micro system, was going to just add a pair of older Tannoy mx1 or similar - my one requirement was it needed to have an optical input as I planned to run a Raspberry Pi into the TV via HDMI then out via optical to the micro - I found an Onkyo one for around £85 quid, speakers are £40-50. Add a Chromecast Audio (if you can find one at reasonable price) for streaming to it. It was for the caravan and I wanted something discreet to hide behind the telly with only a smallish set of speakers on show.
I bought a cheap pair of wireless headphones instead, so I don't have to listen to anybody moaning about put something else on that's crap/it's too loud/put Peppa on/yayayaya...

Hi guys
Thanks for the comments. In the end I dusted off my technics separates and installed them and pretty glad I did, too good to be sat around for 20 years doing nothing and appear to work perfectly . Only have the amp, CD and tuner so have ordered a Bluetooth adapter (for aux) and will finish off the collection with the all important graphic equaliser and tape deck (must have at least 2 old tapes in boxes somewhere).

Always good when you can find a solution with gear you already have! Even if you lose an excuse for buying new toys.
