Hi, thinking of getting one of these and using it with the TV as well as music. Not heard of them before but they get good reviews and are good for putting on a shelf. Anyone have any experience of them?

I first heard one on Richer Sounds in Norwich and was blown away. In that particular demo environment, the sound was astonishingly good - to my ears, anyway, equivalent to a good soundbar & sub.

A few weeks later, just to be sure, I went for a second listen in my local store in London and it sounded pretty weedy and I ended up going back to plan A and getting a Yamaha YSP 2700.

I think the difference was caused by the fact that the 1st on was sitting on a heavy, solid shelf whereas the 2nd one was on some sort of sideboard.

I decided that subs work by sending the sound through the floor and that trying to send low frequency sounds through furniture is far more variable.

Thanks that’s interesting feedback. The issue I have is I need something not wider than about 900mm as I have a heavy sideboard that is a AV one and I want to use the open shelf. My other idea would be a Sonos playbase but bit worried about the sound that comes out the side but there would be a 100mm gap each side.
If anyone has any other suggestions that would be great?

There are many options for improved TV sound and or streaming but where is your tv mounted and how far away are you seated? I would not use a Mu So as a sound bar myself but would choose a dedicated Atmos sound bar. Sony Yamaha or Sonus.

Hi, I’m sat around 11ft away. The tv is directly on top of a bdi av unit and then the cabinet has one open shelf for some sort of sound that is around 900mm wide. So I need something that fits in there and sound comes out the front. What would you suggest?

Do you think a Sonos playbase would be ok?

Thanks, makes the Peter Tyson refurb seem a bit steep

Sonos Beam will fit on the shelf but may not give you the full fat sound that you want. The issue you face is Atmos soundbars need to fire a sound upwards and the better sound bars are 100 cms wide. Are you prepared to place the sound bar on the top in front of the TV?

Hi, yes you’ve hit the nail on the head. Don’t want to put it on top but everything is too wide. Will probably stick with my Sony htx 3 or something like that which is pretty good but no scope for speakers behind

Canton DM60 offers a decent sound at 200w. Will fit but only offers an optical connection not HDMI or HDMI eARC for 2021 and beyond.

I have a mu-so, 2nd generation. I don't use mine as a sound bar, it is for just streaming and enjoying music. And yes, it is and good as they say it is smile

Would it work as a sound bar or is it just not designed for that?

I have a Muso 2 and use it as a soundbar. It does not give a massive soundstage due to its width, there is stereo separation and dialogue is great.
It benefits from sitting on a solid base.

Yes. I was testing them as an alternative to a soundbar.
