Monitor speakers and Macbook - advive please

Hi all,

For many years I've wanted to get some decent speakers to connect to my Macbook in order to listen to music mainly whist I work I've been looking at the yamaha-hs8 and have a few questions:

What do I need to connect these to a Macbook pro
Are they overkill for home/office daily use
Is it worth getting the sub for under the desk?

Currently I have the Harmon Kardon soundsticks which do the job but I think I need more.....

Those are definitely overkill for your application, plus there's no easy way to connect them to your Macbook.

For the money you'd be better off with something like these, and you wouldn't need a sub either.
