Just snagged myself a bargain pair of B&W headphones on ebay meaning we now have his and hers sets in the house.

We want to use this for music and movies from the living room system.

The TV itself does not have bluetooth audio. I currently run this via optical to a stereo DAC and into a 2-channel amp.

I need a transmitter that will allow for the connection of 2 pairs of headphones with the highest quality and lowest latency possible - both headphones support AptX.

Any recommendations? I saw a Sennheiser unit but it seems to imply it wont run 2 pairs in AptX. There's an Avantree model that looks like it might do the job, but I will happily pay more for a good quality machine.

Well I guess what I was wanting to do isn't very common laugh but thought I would, nevertheless, update this thread with the outcome.

I ended up buying this Avantree Oasis Plus transmitter
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Avantree-Bluetooth-Transm...

To go alongside my existing B&W P7 wireless, picked up some PX7, which are two generations newer and with ANC. There are differences with the supported codecs, the P7 supports AptX and the PX7 AptX HD / Adaptive.

Although the PX7 worked fine with a mobile device, unfortunately, playing both the PX7 and P7 from the same transmitter resulted in some stuttering on the PX7. The transmitter was running in AptX rather than HD so it presumably tries to go as high as the least well specced device.

The other issue with the PX7 was for me it sounded inferior to the P7 and also my girlfriend was unable to wear these for too long due to the clamping force

So I cut my losses and picked up another pair of P7W's on ebay, and it's all sorted. Both pairs now play flawlessly from the transmitter and we're happier with the sound quality and comfort.

In terms of the transmitter itself, it was much easier than expected to set up, and it really does work well once it is setup. Turn both pairs of headphones on, turn on the transmitter, and they both connect, with a voice confirmation coming from a small speaker in the device. However based on my experience, it will definitely work better if both headphones are the same.

Only limitation is my dad wanted to listen via the speakers while my mum is using her ear buds, but both the telly and stereo deactivate the speakers when you connect anything to the headphone socket.

You need one of those ^
.
Connect the phono end to the TV stereo outputs / amplifier line-out and jack end into the gizmo. Then you should be able to do what you describe.

Thanks for that, I'll check it out.

I could also just get them a cheap bluetooth speaker I guess, but it would need its own volume control.

Those earbuds I linked to don't have AptX, maybe that will affect latency... but no complaints so far.
Cable will be simpler and cheaper and much easier to use than trying to integrate another BT device, which like you say, will have its own volume as well (albeit, maybe a remote too).

Only really the higher AptX protocols (HD / Adaptive / LL) will reduce latency to any significant degree. Personally, I'm fine with standard AptX. You might see it if you're looking for it, but just don't look for it smile
