Sorry folks if I come across a bit ;alive, but just looking for affirmation I suppose....... Selling a piece of hi if, price agreed and I will not release until I have received payment by bank transfer. Buyer arranging courier. Fair enough - done this before myself.
However a wee parrot on my shoulder is squawking. Obviously I need to give bank details for payment, and in turn address details for pick up. Fearful I am pegging myself up for 1/ at best losing a few hundred quid, or 2/ at worst loss of a few hundred quid plus identity theft.
Advice appreciated

Back when people used cheques, the sort code and account number was written on every one.

More concerning if it’s a very high sum is that bank transfers can be recalled if made from a compromised account, so get proof of ID from the buyer.

The risk in the situation you describe is about 500 x worse for the BUYER than it is for you.

I've probably done £20,000 of bank transfer sales and never had a single problem.

OP - if not meeting the buyer, ask him for proof of ID and address.

Also ask him if he has ebay or is a member of a online forum etc and pm him on there to verify.
