was thinking of buying an amp and some speakers for the garage, but how can i stream music through the amp. Ive seen some bluetooth adapters etc but if i buy an old amp presumably it will only have an aux in. Do i need an amp with a USB port ?

thanks in advance.

No, any amp will do if you buy a Bluetooth audio adapter - loads of options available, not expensive either.

I use one of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Avantree-Bluetooth-Transm...

It's just a bluetooth receiver plugged into the AUX channel on my Bose lifestyle system, and works brilliantly.

Unless the garage is massive, a couple of cheap Bluetooth speakers and TWS?

Or some thing like a pair of these, which could be had for close to budget, new if you know who to ask.

If there’s Wi-fi signal, Chromecast Audio will be perfect.

You can get a great sounding setup for your budget brand new from Richer Sounds.

Do you already have an Amazon dot or the Google version?

I run radio and Spotify through a Dot which connects easily to my amp.

I'm planning on something similar, but with a 'vintage' amp and maybe an equaliser too. I want loads of knobs and switches. biggrin

Given I'd be streaming MP3s and 4s,so already a bit lossy, presumably a pair of old decent speakers will be fine too?

Good call.

I use an NS-10G PRO amp to drive a pair of mission 731 speakers ( and a B&W ASW-1000 sub smile ) in my office. Great sound for silly money, plenty of power, good connectivity, low noise floor.

On the strength of the performance of NS-10G PRO, I bought an NS-01G ( same as the one in the link you posted ) for my son's computer........it drives a pair KEF CODA 7s. Sounds great too.

Very happy with both units............no shortage of online customer reviews for both products.

I'm tempted by one of these as. Well. I'm using an audiolab 8000A for sounds from my work laptop and aside from the fact it's complete overkill, it's just too big.

Given you know what you're talking about, I might give one a whirl. I had a topping VX2 until recently but it was a little gutless. It was rated at 2 x 35w. Would the 2 x 50 watts of the nobsound make much difference?

50w is equivalent to 17dbw............35w is equivalent to 15.44dbw so the difference in level will be tiny. In my experience, many entry level Class D amps are limited by their low cost power supplies but I think the Nobsound units are better than most. When an amp sounds gutless it is often because the power supply is current limited.....this may have been the case on the Topping's PSU.

This product might be of interest https://templeaudio.net/stealth.html Temple Audio gear has gained a giant killing reputation for sound quality / value. The Stealth unit in the link is £100.......

Got a chance to run these up this morning and wow, for a little 4" Driver and Tweeter these a very nice sounding little pair of active speakers. Good bass levels with the rear ported speakers and lovely bright and energetic front presentation.

With Bluetooth, USB and Analogue inputs, i am pairing them with a ProJect record deck as the ultimate Vinyl / Digital starter lack for £499.
