Hi All

Just re-decorated our living room, looks great but our 10 year old tv looks well dated - works fine, but it can go elsewhere in the house to gather dust, its done its duty.

So new TV time, but we dont watch loads so Im not into OLED or anything mental, just not worth it - 40/43 inch as the room isnt that big - hit me up with what to buy! Max £500.

Thanks

A year old but still just about relevant. Samsung Q60 will be under budget on Black Friday. It can struggle with very dark scenes though, as warned in the thread.

A timely question, I recently went through the same process and decided to buy the Samsung QE43Q60T. Very happy with it, picture is extremely good. I managed to get it for £490 via currys online price match in during the prime day offers so would imagine that black Friday will see it well within your budget

What do I get thats so much better? As a TV novice, seems like next to nothing.

Here's the 40-45" selection from Richer Sounds:
https://www.richersounds.com/tv-projectors/all-tvs...

Go in & try them to see which user Interface you like - if you're not driven by picture quality then it's the UI that you need to be happy with.

My mate has an OLED Sony and he says the UI lets it down badly. Im told Samung and LG is much better but cant go to shops now to try.

I’ve heard the same about Sony, I can vouch for LG’s UI and think it’s perfectly fine, it’s pretty quick and easy to use (even with the magic remote). There are ads on it but for what I use it for I don’t really pay too much attention to them. Also updates seem to be plentiful too.

A good question. Like yourself I'm a bit of a novice, went for the QE43Q60T because it was a newer model which I presumed would be the next generation of screen as it's QLED. I didn't get a chance to demo in person against anything so went on reviews.

I wasn't going to sway you but I don't rate the UI on my Sony either; the LG UI seems to get positive comments. Do you use any particular streaming service - Netflix/Amazon Prime/Apple TV/Disney? If so you might want to check which of these a set supports.

There's a lot of information here:

I'd forgotten about lockdown.

I've been looking for a new 43" TV recently and one thing I've learnt is that the 2020 LG TVs don't have the ability to watch the most popular catch up TV apps on them. Stuff like All4, ITVplayer is missing and now downloadable from their app store.

I saw a comment about this on a review someone had made. Seems weird but if you can download them then thats ok.

I’ve just bought a 7100 that you link for one of the bedrooms. In comparison to the QLED it’s not as bright and the colours not as well defined. For £350 in a bedroom though it does the job just fine. The sound isn’t great on it though which seems to be a common issue with a lot of the newer Smaller Samsung TVs. Doesn’t bother me for an occasional bedroom TV though

Sorry, my fat fingers. It should have read NOT downloadable!!!

This is the sole reason I haven't bought an LG 2020 43" model TV.

True I have a Youview box and a now tv stick but it would nice to just use the TV rather than flitting between devices.

I said that to the Mrs, but her point was if we are buying a new TV why should we have to compromise with add ons when in this day and age it should be all built in.

I looked at the Panasonic TX-43HX580B side by side with the LG in Curry's, just over a week ago, but I didn't think the picture on the Panasonic was as good. Especially as it was £50 dearer.

Let us know what Richer Sounds says.
