Was thinking of one of these for the lounge, can I do away with the alexa if I buy this? I hear some Sonos stuff doesnt have Alexa built in. I want to be able to ask it to turn lights on , weather etc.

The Play 5 is the older speaker that doesn’t have a microphone for voice control.

The Sonos Five is the new speaker, and that doesn’t have a microphone for voice control either.

Only the One and Move speakers, and the Beam and Arc sound bars, have microphones.

Yes it was the Five, my mistake. So could I plug the alexa in the back or is there another way or can the alexa control the five wirelessly?

as long as the alexa is on the same wifi network it can be anywhere in the house to control the sonos, is that what you were asking?

Can i have a setup that I ask the alexa a question or put Radio 2 on whatever and it comes out the Five? Id like to do away with the alexa completely if possible.

You’re not getting rid of Alexa (or google assistant) since that’s the software that does all the commands. You will still need a ‘thing’ (nest, dot, echo, whatever) that has a microphone because the Five doesn’t have one.

do you mean the sound output of alexa to come out of the speaker?

if thats the case, either hardwire with the 3.5mm output, or bluetooth if the speaker supports it.
