LG OLED specs.
Discussion
It seems if you narrow your search for a new TV down to 65in LG OLED you'd think you'd have one to pick from and the world would be peachy.
Seems like there's about 4, BX, CX, GX, WX, don't quote me on that.
Would a normal person notice the difference between the models? Where's the pick of the range?
Thanks.

There's lots of information on AVForums & you might want to try posting your question in either the LG or OLED sub forum:

Have a watch here. HDTV Test are superb at reviewing the sets. Best I can tell you can't go wrong with any of them. The CX seems to be the best allrounder (it is also very highly rated with LTT) https://www.youtube.com/c/hdtvtest

However:
BX - base model but uses identical actual panel to model above
CV - model up - same panel as base, but different image processor (A9X??), bigger stand. Same speakers IIRC
There is one model up which is super flat; even more flat than these. could be GX/WX. Better speakers.
Good luck - just got one put in. Consider taking advantage of john lewis £125 wallmounting.

'Gallery' TVs are always a lot more expensive.
I went in to buy a CX and came out with a GX - although bear in mind that the GX needs cables routed in a very specific place so if you already have cables chased it may not work for you.
Nothing in the wall yet. Gave my last decent TV to the parents and have an old Panasonic plasma sat on some drawers at the moment. I'd not heard or gallery TVs before today.
In the process of looking at the moment. My OLED went pop at the weekend after 4.5 years, waiting to hear if it can be repaired under warranty, if not I get a replacement to the same value (£3.5k).
As mentioned above, the CX, GX and WX are pretty much the same spec just packaged in fancier ways (the WX has a separate unit to enable a 'wallpaper screen' that is ridiculously thin).
Look a like it needs to be another LG as the Sony is underwhelming and the 8k Samsung actually looks significantly worse than the 4k LGs most of the time.
CX/GX is the pick of the bunch.

The AG9 and A8H (which is their 2020 model) actually review very well, the Sony's actually seems to review better on the panel alone. LG tend to pick up the plaudits for VRR etc which only really matters to gamers. As mentioned above, the CX, GX and WX are pretty much the same spec just packaged in fancier ways (the WX has a separate unit to enable a 'wallpaper screen' that is ridiculously thin).

The reviews I read mentioned the underwhelming HDR on the Sony - is this not their latest ones?
One of the potential annoying things with LG is the lack of catch up on demand apps.
I boiled my brain between the two sets over the last few weeks in anticipation of a Black Friday purchase which sadly won't be going ahead! However all the reviews I have read and watched called out that there really isn't much in it.One of the potential annoying things with LG is the lack of catch up on demand apps.

If the Sony is OLED is the panel not made by LG anyway?
Yes but imaging is more than panels now. Honestly have a good flick through all the reviews, it would seem you cannot go wrong with any of the ones you have listed and the differences between them all is minutia type stuff as is the difference between LG and the Sony setsI'm going through this process right now - trying to decide between the BX, CX and GX.
One thing to note about the retailers - they seem to be the same price everywhere, and John Lewis is usually a good bet because of the 5 year warranty. However, Currys are doing the 5 year warranty, and including free LG FN4 wireless earbuds. Not of use for everyone, but I think I would find them useful.

I'm getting a 65" OLED in the next couple of months. The 65GX is the one I'm going for because the whole shape is different to the other models to enable it to sit practically on the wall surface with an even gap all around. If you are wall mounting flush, i.e. not in a recess, then it's definitely the one to go for.

JL or Richer Sounds for me just for the peace of mind of their customer service. One thing to note about the retailers - they seem to be the same price everywhere, and John Lewis is usually a good bet because of the 5 year warranty. I've been looking into this range too.
BX - cheaper entry model, with older generation processor
CX - same screen, better processor
GX- like the CX, but with voice command and better remote
WX - Proper flexible screen that sticks to a magnetic backing plate, plus an Atmos soundbar, but it's about £7K!
The first three come with HDMI 2.1 (i think the WX may have HDMI 2.1), so good with the new-gen consoles (4k up to 120Hz refresh).
I think the CX will be the best option, unless you can get a GX on a good deal (Black Friday), or you're feeling a bit flush.
