Hi,

I wonder if anyone is able to help me with a very niggly but annoying problem that seems to have started over the last week or 2. I have tried to explain as best i can.

TV - Samsung UE50TU8500
Soundbar - Samsung again, cannot recall the model number but 3 or so years old
Sky Q box

Connectivity:
HDMI from Sky box into TV
Digital optical from TV to soundbar
TV is configured for sound to be output via optical cable within the TV settings
Sky Q box i have tried changing the settings for sound to see if it makes any difference - none that i have observed

All of the above has been working fine and then we had to unplug everything to have some work completed in the living room. Upon putting it all back together when watching Sky for no apparent reason and on no specific channel the sound will cut out for a second or two. The picture remains.

These are the tests that i have completed to try and understand what is causing it.

1. Replaced HDMI cable - no difference, sound still cuts out
2. Watch, through the TV smart features Netflix / Prime / BT Sport. Sound is fine, no cutting out
3. Watched a sky recording - sound does cut out, again following no pattern.
4. Re-connected everything - no difference, sound still cuts out

I have connected the optical cable direct to the TV because we watch the streaming services via the TV rather than the Sky box so my assumption was this is required for sound to be transmitted via the sound bar.

Could this be an issue with the way i have connected the optical cable and we watch Sky? Sky does appear to be the weak link in the chain but i cannot see why the sound would work fine for X amount of minutes and then drop for a second or two. Due to the fact we are in the middle of some works the sky box is currently on the floor with cables across the living room (sounds worse than it is) as i need to re-run the satellite cable to the new location.

Any thoughts or if i have been looking at this for so long i have missed something very simple it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Dan

Long shot, but have you tried resetting the Q box ?

Highlight Settings, then press 0 0 1 > Select.

Select the first reset - unlike the other two options, this shouldn't delete any recordings you have.

If you have a touch remote, you may need to re-pair this after the reset.

Thanks for your reply - I haven't tried that i didnt realise that there was that option. I'll give that a go, a re-set never hurt anyone!

My SkyQ sound regularly drops out similarly. Mines connected to the TV by HDMI, then HDMI-ARC to a Sonos Beam. Irritating and not uncommon it seems.

I have the same issues, it seems very common and so very annoying.

For me it's usually if i'm watching something i've recorded or downloaded and all the UHD live football.

Theres a few threads about it on avforums.

Current and common Sky Q issue, have exactly the same. Various threads on various forums, Sky not acknowledging anything.

Similar experiences here, just going straight out of Sky box into pre-amp using HDMI and I'll get this from time to time, maybe a handful of times a year. Rebooting the Sky box fixes it (usually after I've tried everything else. Really should learn!)

Mines the first gen box, currently debating whether to pay £50 for an upgrade to get HDR.

I have the latest box with HDR, still have issues with sound. My box goes directly into the tv and eARC for the sound. But picture quality has improved albeit with limited choice of content.

I too get this with my set up. Seems it could be a HDMI to Arc setting or Dolby Digital advanced setting. I haven’t tried to sort out yet but this may be helpful to some...

I’ve got an older Sky Q box, hdmi to Sky Soundbox, hdmi Soundbox to tv, tv optical out to Soundbox for Xbox sounds.

Not cutting out for me on any sources, does yours cut out if you just use the tv for sound and not the soundbar?
