Buying new TV

I am in the process of buying a new TV. Can anyone recommend any good deals which they may be aware of?

If your budget will stretch, the LG CX series OLED is a great option. About £1k for the 55 inch. Fairly future proof as you can get at this stage

Actually looking at this right now, currently have a Panny 3D 50” that cost £5k 12 years ago!!!

I want bigger and I’m thinking 65” might not be that much of an increase?

Have a look at Mitchell and Brown. They do all the smart TVs in large to small sizes depending what you want. They have them made in the large European factories where many of the other brands come from and pick and choose the parts they want fitted to theirs. The real beauty is they’re so confident that they offer a seven year (yes 7) parts and labour guarantee. I’ve got a 24 inch in the bedroom and really pleased with it. Will replace my main set when I get around to it.

I went from a 50 to a 65, a really decent increase in size.

No OLED and tellingly no 7 year confidence in the big stuff. That’s a bit odd.

I won’t buy another TV without checking out the operating system and apps. st OS absolutely ruins my Bravia which has a superb picture. Samsung OS is streets ahead.

Sony have Freesat timers but no EPG making it utterly useless.

LG appears to be missing catch-up apps like iPlayer which is tedious.

From what I have read, they are just a rebadged cheap Vestel sets. Also unless I’m being blind, where are the prices?

I’d rather spend my hard earned at either Richer Sounds or Peter Tyson personally on a decent TV.

Yeah it only became a problem for us when we quit Sky.

The Freesat thing was ridiculous - the only way to pick a channel was to literally step up and down - didn’t even show channel names in a list.

We have a couple of LGs. Both have iPlayer, itv Hub, all4 etc. Both have Disney+. The more recent also has AppleTV and is an Airplay2 target
