Is it just me that gets annoyed that when you stream a favourite album through Spotify/amazon/tidal whatever and you get some remastered album with extra tracks, and not the classic album that you remember?

If i wanted extra tracks I'd go look for them, but a lot of the albums you dont get the choice to play the real unadulterated album.

Grrr.

Ive got it on vinyl, but my missus is watching the telly so it's easier to stream into headphones.

Ok I’ll let you off! laugh

Other problem with streaming is the tracks don’t always follow the original listing even without extra tracks

Drives me mad, An album I've loved and played for 45 years or more and they've put bloody extra songs in there and mucked about with the playing order.

What annoys me is the dance albums (I quite like the chill out stuff) that was purposefully mixed and they’re just replaced with original mixes which don’t flow, as well as soundtrack albums which are often completely wrong.

Wouldn't be able to complain then.

Seriously though (well a little bit) in the "good old days" artists spent a lot of time deciding on the ordering of an albums, just for some muppet in the record company to decide if they changed it and mucked it about they could sell a special edition.

I suppose the kids don't care these days as they see music as disposable and the concept of an album must seem weird.

Also when streaming, my Making Movies album doesn’t sound right. I always expect it to jump in a certain place !

hehe yeah I have several tracks where a skip is etched into my brain.

To the above point - part of the attraction of vinyl (and CD to some extent) for me is that you tend to listen to the whole album, in the right order, as mastered. e.g. where tracks might blend into each other, it doesn't work to listen to just one of them, or out of sequence.

Agreed - with vinyl I tend to just let it play - less likely to when streaming as it’s easier to jump a track.
In the same way, I sometimes don’t really know an album until I’ve listened in the car - again, tend to just let it play in the car rather than track- hopping

I've stayed with the humble CD. Classic albums are better value now than ever - Haven't spun vinyl since 1987..!

the late 80's were dark days for vinyl - the advent of the cd which was cheaper to produce and which could be sold at a premium led to some really poor vinyl pressing - most of my vinyl from that period would warp as soon as it was looked at. The heavyweight vinyl sold today is a league apart from some of the old thin stuff.

Agreed on the quality of new vinyl today, much better than that late 80s.

I still prefer the sound of vinyl for most classic albums pre 1982/3. The original pressing of Carole Kings Tapesty is so much better than the new remaster.

The problem is most remastered albums have lost the dynamics and sound far too bright.

Even if they keep it in the right order, you often get a tiny "gap" on streamed songs, which ruins the flow.

Also, I can think of at least 1 song I have on vinyl where the 1st song on side 2 starts with the artist saying "side 2..."!!! That'd confuse the kids these days on a random song streamed from Spotify.
