DIY digital streaming
Discussion
Over the years I have built up a variety of digital streaming. This includes MP3 streaming with some ancient slimp3 players, flac streaming to volumio, and flac streaming to linn sneaky ds.
I'm trying to work out a proper contemporary digital solution that includes my own ripped Cd collection with a streaming service to a phone/car/Bluetooth at the bottom end with multi rooms and the rather impressive naim/b&w system in the listening room.
The question is has anyone used roon to do this?
All thoughts or suggestions gratefully received!
TL;DR old streaming system needs replacing with new. About 7 rooms.
Cheers

Volumio on a raspberry pi perhaps?
I’ve got a few of these dotted around - the workshop one runs through a cheap usb dac into an old amp, another runs into a Dacmagic and then an amp.
Still got sonos for the main house but have Yamaha and Pioneer separates for streaming in study/office.
I tend to mainly stream from my NAS - although I do run tidal mqa in the study.

Yes, I use R Pi's with volumio, slimp3s (pretty old now), and a sneaky DS in one room. There are amps with all of them (the sneaky has one built in).
It's a bit of a hobby, I've made various kit amps, fiddled with the R Pi and have a speaker build project in the go.
I quite like the Roon idea to give one back end to manage my ripped Cd collection and merge it with a streaming service as it says it does. Then I can have a think about the streamers. The slimp3s are failing as they are really 2000s vintage.

Now that is the question. I need to research further, but it says it has really good device coverage. Will work with the Squeezeboxes for example. It also claims very clever music management, curating multiple sources to present them as one. I assume volumio allows you to choose a source, but actually haven't yet tried it.
Mind you, maybe I don't need my ripped CDs if they are all on a streaming service at high res and I'm over complicating!
