Sound bars

Had a quick search and there doesn't seem to be anything recent.

I've just ordered a 70 inch TV for the lounge. I don't really want to go full surround sound (as the plan is to eventually have a cinema room), would a sound bar offer a useful audio upgrade?

Any recommendations? (The TV is an LG 70UN7 4006LA, if it makes a difference?)

I bought an LG SN7Y soundbar for my LG Oled C7.
It's only a £350 one with a wireless sub-woofer but it makes very little difference TBH.

It's ace and would certainly be a worthwhile audio upgrade.

Sonos.

I tried a Cambridge sound base and a Yamaha bar + sub, sent both back. Sonos is ace.

I use a Sonos one with the sub.

I bought a Sony AF9 a while ago. No sound bar required. Seriously impressive sound.

Me too. Quite like the ability to promote the vocals and turn the bass down so that I can more easily hear dialogue (now that I'm getting old).

But also to link it all to the other Sonos kit and play music everywhere.

I've just got a Roku Smart Soundbar for US$149. The sound isn't a big leap from the very old and unreliable Philips soundbar it replaced, but I've set it up to be the main streaming device and apparently it will be easy to upgrade it with a Roku sub later.

Interesting, thanks. Sonos sounds like it's a good option, but they're pretty dear if you want a sub as well (not much less than the TV cost!).

This seems a good combination of sub included, good make, great reviews, reasonable(ish) price. Any thoughts?

I haven't got the sub - the soundbar pushes out a pretty hefty sound on its own but some people always want more. Look at it as an extra you can buy later.

If you've got a small-ish room, the Arc and the rear effect speakers will do a great job. The sub is mental money for what it is

I’ve got a Sonos Beam, cheaper than the Arc, and two One SL’s, and it’s plenty bassy and loud enough for the room we have it in.

Wanted the Sub before I set it all up but afterwards decided it would just be a waste of money.

A soundbar will be a big improvement over the TV's internal speakers. If you are already invested into the Sonos ecosystem it makes sense to get a Sonos Soundbar, if not there are a lot of other options that arguably offer more bang for your buck especially if you want a sub to go with it as the Sonos sub is very expensive.

You could do worse than chose an LG bar to go with your LG TV. Curry's have them listed from between £179 and £1299

The I've never sat in front of any home cinema set up and been impressed. Especially with sound bars.

What is considered the best? Seems like a mine field of What Reviews and A/V forum experts.

we have a Sonos Playbase - very impressed. No need for a seperate subwoofer - although you can add one later - with additional speakers if you think they are required. Guys at Richter sounds worth talking too - once they are open again. You can book appointments - well worth it
